You call it a fantasy - I'd like to know if I'm reading in the past, present or future. Can you clarify, or would that ruin things?

John,
This clarity is exactly what I needed . . . these words will fall on different ears, for some it's an affirmation what they believe, to others it will make them ponder, but for me, well, it's spiritual. I often gaze at courage, this inspires me to dive and taste it.
Much appreciation, Linda (L. K. Craft)

Truer words were never written/spoken. An excellent piece John. I think you could add another element to complete an already complete circle and that is fear. I hope you will write on that if you haven't already and I've missed it. Peace, blessings ,and gratitude for caring enough to share. <Mikii>

THE PROPER TIME TO DO SOMETHING IS WHEN ONE DOES IT.
I did learn through the lines of this magnificent composition, which requires further study for a proper understanding.
I see poetry as the wet-nurse of the language and the guideline of its growth and perfection.
I close this with words of Master Aberjhani:
“... Every poet is rightfully entitled to his or her individual perspective and methodology, every poet’s voice is a valid and valued one.” ––ABERJHANI

My Poetics [#12] (Article) - 3/24/2005 8:32:22 PM
Many new writers are alarmed to discover that quite a few readers assume that their poetry is all personal fact. Whereas most of the time, a writer might relate personal events, there are times when a writer's creative urges immerse him in pure fantasy or a mixture of fact and fantasy. It's called poetic license. I've learned not to assume a writer's works are always his personal accountings. Therefore, I try to always focus on the poem's worth, and then comment on my opinion of it. One of the greatest tools of a writer/poet is his imagination. That's what adds seasoning to the dish! Well written article, John.

" . . . a daily exercise; and the more you do it the more poetry forms you . . ." Exactly! I know this to be true. I never understood how powerful poety was until I had been involved with it(albiet my attempts are woefully inept) for some time. I found that certain traits in my personal life and thinking were being subjugated, to a point, by my poems. With the shameful risk that writers make, i.e., writing what they think people want to hear, I believe that one can shape his own morals and points of view by the continuous writing of poetry. No matter the age of the poet, me being one example of that. Good article. I didn't delve into the religous part of you article for a reason.

My Poetics [#3] (Article) - 2/16/2005 10:29:55 AM
I often awake in the early mornings, with phrases, sometimes entire short poems, in my head! Often, I awake with the melody of an unknown tune playing in my mind. I quickly grab my little recorder from under my pillow or night stand and sing, hum, or recite the "offering" into it. Later, I replay and tweak it to my satisfaction.
I appreciate these articles, "My Poetics", that you have posted here on AD. They truly help me. Thanks!

The Green Man and the Priest (Poetry) - 9/15/2009 1:58:50 PM
This is wonderful poetry. The first stanza was particularly effective and drew me in completely. There's a Druid-flavor that spices this piece in a very satisfying way. The imagery is clear and evocative to all the senses.

I like the simple honesty of this blended with the naked truth, pardon the pun.

The Green Man and the Priest (Poetry) - 4/25/2009 7:54:21 AM
Poetically irreverent and scandalously free! This poem will excommunicate the prim and proper ideas of priesthood...make it alive "singing a drunken office to the sound of a broken reed, affirming life, riotous life...abundant joy in breathing."
