I love the Chinese proverb. I don't remember when I began giving advice instead of listening to it. It matters not anyway where I give or I receive, I will go on as I see fit at the time. Do I wish I had come to grips with some valuable lessons much, much earlier in my life? You bet I do. But that is the human experience, and as you pointed out in you well-written article,I had heard the advice of those older and wiser, but in my mind I was on a downhill race to death and nothing was going to stop me. Then suddenly I was forty-years-old. I had proclaimed I would not live past thirty. Somewhere along there is when I began to understand life and its pitfalls and rewards, but it would still take me another decade in order to fuse everything together. I turned seventy this year. I am happier now that I have ever been. Happiness is a tenuous thing. My wife died last February, so one might ask how can I say I am happier now that I have ever been. Simple. I have learned how to be happy, by not allowing life's lesson's, i.e., my wife's death, to hinder those lessons.

"I will learn from the mistakes I have lived." This caught my eye because, although it is basically the same as "You must learn from your mistakes," it is worded differently, which makes it much more intimate. This piece is almost metaphysical in its structure, but for some strange reason I began to think of the existentialist philosophy, one that in my youth I dabbled with. You come off as asking more questions that giving answers, except for the one basic presumptuous truth, as evidenced here: "This is my truth. My truth is my flaw." You are a kindred spirit, although my words are not as eloquent, I feel the same emotion you have produced herein.

You present an interesting philosophical perspective which I appreciate. Thank you for sharing it. Love and peace, Regis

Quite a bit of "inside" drama herein I surmise / Haha! / I suppose it is bittersweet, but those last two lines kicked-ass . . .

Well hell, Joyce, I started out confused, but by the time I got to the end of this unorthodox little ditty I was nodding my head, and saying, "Yes! Yes!" Enjoyed this. Now I feel you are going to play with words a little differently than we are used to, in that regard I will be tracking you . . . Welcome to AD
