Coming Home (Article) - 4/20/2006 11:11:55 AM
This article brought a tear to my eye too. I never forget and my silent tribute has been to keep yellow ribbons tied around the veteran's memorial and a park near by my house. I have been keeping it up for years, I don't normally tell anyone, it isn't for outer thanks, it is so that when I drive by and see the yellow ribbons I know that I am honoring the men and women that protect our freedome.
Discovering America, Who Deserves the Credit? (Article) - 3/27/2003 8:17:26 PM
Tom, This is an excellent article, on the truth of just who actually "discovered" America. I enjoyed reading this very much! I can only hope that one day the truth will be taught to American School children,
Excellent!

Equality In America (Article) - 3/14/2003 4:15:12 PM
With the exception of the Native Americans we can all trace our origins to outside of the United States. My bloodlines are half German yet I'll never refer to myself as a German-American (sounds silly anyhow).
Enjoyed reading! Thanks,
Allen

Equality In America (Article) - 3/13/2003 11:07:42 AM
Equality in America is a nice dream - Can it happen when we don't fund education equally?
IMO, the disparity in our schools must be the priority. Can it happen when the only chance for many to get a higher education is through the military? (Sorry, this was a great article, and I'm letting my personal frustrations out...I have so many these days)

Excellent subject matter, though I guess it is they who have to make the same mistakes we made to grow...we keep trying, but until they are ready, they will keep being themselves...enjoy them, they will only be that age for a short time...Ed

Ewe, I always avoided the roach coach. Better to bring peanut butter crackers with you at all times than eat crap. Don't fool yourself, just because you survived hostilities from around the world doesn't mean you are immune to greedy ignorance. Like in food poisoning.

Vision Quest (Poetry) - 3/28/2003 10:50:05 AM
Very powerful opening stanza!
3rd stnza is perfect!
...
"Yet at this fireside I see Eden as it was meant to be
This man here with you has a good heart
And with that there is still hope"
Then he said to me "You are not forsaken
In you is the worlds salvation
As long as you treat your fellow man well
Feed the hungry, bring hope to the hopeless
And love, I will always be here"
Even if I can affect only one life, give hope to someone who is down
I agree, and yes, most people are evil or selfish, or both, but there are still some good seeds
... for every good seed, i hope there is a tear of life as you describe it

Sounds very noble. Nothing could be simpler than this,
"Respect others even when they are evil to you, be a good man
And this tree will spread seeds and those seeds will grow
Soon a forest of hope will grow, and love will replace hate
Giving will replace greed and Life will replace death"
Nice work Mr. Daniels, thank you.

Very powerful and true. Living in COsta Rica, it's sometimes difficult being the only "Gringa" in the room, but I defend my country and my people every chance I get; which is about fifty times a day, these days! I love America and all that we stand for and what courage you have to write such a powerful poem under the harsh criticism that our country is under! I'm with Karla, standing and saluting you! Last Words of Dying Heros (Poetry) - 3/27/2003 11:41:42 AM
"I have held their hands, as I looked for their limbs." That is my favorite line. I say a prayer everyday for our troops at this moment. They are putting their lives at risk for something which they believe in strongly. Not everyone is capable of that kind of selflessness and I admire it. This is a very emotional tribute to all of AMerica's soldiers; all the way back to the revolutionary war that made us Americans. Fantastic write! (((HUGS)))

Choice or Destiny (Poetry) - 3/27/2003 11:37:10 AM
I really like this! "So, then it is not destiny that makes us who we are, but rather our choices." - Professor Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It is one of the last lines of the movie and my favorite quote ever since my husband and I took our daughter to see the movie. This poem says exactly what I, and professor Dumbledore, believe. Great job! (((HUGS)))

Bert, I loved this poem for three reasons, 1) it's excellent, 2) we all need to remember we are who we are because of our past, and 3) when I was asked if I'd do it all again, I said yes and wouldn't change a thing just so I could have my kids, and the me I am today. Great write, good questions, wonderful conclusions.

Dealers or Kids (Poetry) - 3/15/2003 5:39:04 PM
Kids first always. As Charles Dickens said, The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few" I belive it was in A Tale of Two Cities, he wrote that. I salute anyone who fights for our children, whether with pen or sword. Hail the Warriors!

Bertram, outstanding. We will live with those rights or die fighting for them.
My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/15/2003 5:31:08 AM
I will be right next to you bro. Patton said"I would rather have the entire German Army in front of me than a the French Army behind me. Time to start fishin' and stop cutting bait. To the last man!
My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 8:51:38 PM
And I'm a proud Australian;
I have my heritage
but some folk want me to deny
the past that I came from-
They want me to apologise
for things I never did
they criticise my work because
"it's *Australian*, kid!"
"American is all the rage - your style it doesn't fit!"
But I say; "I'm Australian. And I;m proud of it!"
Sally Odgers.

My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 6:20:08 PM
There is no greater country than America. As I travel around the USA I see people from all nationalities. Everyone is clamoring to come to the USA, to become an American. But I would be happier if all things were equal. If all people had the freedoms that Americans have. And afterall isn't that what you fought for, to stave off tyranny and oppression? So be proud that you had the priviledge to be a part of that freedom march around the world.
My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 5:47:18 PM
He who talks loudest is not necessarily the wisest. I agree with the ladies here. Fine poem.

My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 5:44:53 PM
Be proud and don't fret over what others say, because it will never change. The anti war say "will we never learn, and the others side says the same thing and the middle roaders say I don't want to get involved, while the majority those like you who are just normal people who were raised to believe in God, Country, and Family,
answered your country's call to protect the rest of us, for which I thank you and thank God, for those like you, while the rest will continue to just listen to their own voice and say, "wiil we never learn" thinking their own voice is the most important one! You also fought to save them!
My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 5:27:08 PM
I don't think patriotism offends anyone. I think there are a shameful few that really don't stand for anything constructive, whether in their own country or the USA, and those attack anything and everything trying to qualify themselves as conscientious disenters when their intent is to destroy or ridicule only. They live for it. These are easily sorted out and the loudest are not necessarily the majority. Arguing and venomous triades settle nothing, but helpful constructive dialog is good.
This is a thoughtful work, and I applaud you your service record.
~E
My Patriotism Offends (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 5:12:15 PM
Bertram,
"We really do not care
You see we will all band together
And die for the right
For the pins and the hat that proclaim
I am Proud to be an American "
Powerful write,.

The Peacemakers Talked (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 11:09:13 AM

The Peacemakers Talked (Poetry) - 3/14/2003 5:37:30 AM
There is talk and then there is action. That is the lesson to still be learnt. Peace is the answer, but not in the way it has been obtained in the past. Good write.
