Everyone needs a good laugh now and then. I can relate to that as I have 2 of my own. I liked the excerpt and may get the book later.

Your book sounds like a good read. I happen to know first hand that Jesus still heals today, for I am living proof of His healing touch. May God continue to bless you, Al, as you bless others.

"Funny Side Up" has lived in the Leech household since my wife's dad (Wiley) became ill and eventually died of the same disease Al Squitieri survived (Polymyositis). Al tells all in his book "Broken Glass and All." My wife's mom now lives in a small cottage adjacent to our home, and whenever any of us get sad thinking about Wiley, we can read a chapter or two of "Funny Side Up" and the tears of sadness are transformed into to tears of laughter. Thanks Al for helping us cope. Mike

Any book about autoimmune disorders catch my immediate attention. Your story sounds like one of overcoming and learning to live with and around Polymyositis. I have Lupus and do understand some of the challanges of learning to Live With Lupus.

A reviewer, a reader helped by this book., July 3, 2001,
Al's book has been a blessing to me!
We don't need another self-help book without God. We don't need anything minus God! I was so moved by many of the things shared in the first few chapters...especially the story about seeing your uncle in the nursing home and when the tear dropped from his eye as he was close to his death...I, too, believe he could hear you and responded with that tear. Your book is such a testimony to God and His Power. I will be praying as you make your decision to republish your book. I think it is excellent as is. Shelley Johnson, Missouri

Bob Tubaugh, an avid reader, July 3, 2001,
Guaranteed more laughs than pages!
I finished reading and laughing thru this book, 'Funny Side Up.' I'll be recommending it to others. Al did an excellent job of entertaining with his humorous stories. And as I recall, he did an excellent job of preaching too. Now I'm going to read his other book, 'Broken Glass And All.' I expect it to be more informative than humorous, though, I can't picture Al not including some humor in all his writing. Bob Tubaugh, Palm Harbor, Florida.

I met Al online, and after getting to know him, I decided to read Funny Side Up. It was hilarious. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh and a real taste of life. I would like to thank Al for his contribution to the literary profession. It is a sincere pleasure to know him and to have had the chance to learn a little more about him through his writing.

We have a daughter with spina bifida. She has been in a wheelchair since she was two years old. It never ceases to amaze me how many ways people with disabilities are excluded in some form or another...little ways, such as a teacher asking everyone to stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance...etc... narrow aisles in classrooms, restaurants, etc... miles of stairs... Do you know that in many states if a hotel is three or fewer stories, they are not required to have an elevator?? And...in those same hotels, they fill up from the bottom up. I am always appalled when we have to spend literally hours searching for a hotel that can accommodate our daughter's wheelchair needs.
But...enough of my rant. Informative write & very insightful.

Thank you for your insightful article about religion in this day and age. There are great truths expressed herein. Sadly, too few in this day and age believe words and warnings such as yours...

Church Members Should Keep Leadership in Proper Perspective (Article) - 4/2/2009 5:09:14 AM
Brother… I hear your truth. I’m afraid the end times are here and Satan is well into the process of taking his earthy throne and gathering all evil to himself. The schools, the government, corporations, Hollywood, the media are all his domain now. He is in the church too I’m afraid.. But that doesn’t change the truth of Christ. Remember Judas sat at Christ table also and conspired from within, but could not change the truth of Jesus‘ divinity. . However, one can no longer trust priests or bishops with absolute obeisance. They are only people who can be tempted and won over by the evil one. I adhere to the teachings of Christ, I hear only those in the Church who speak only the truth of Christ’s words, not those who would speak for Christ. I still believe that the Pope is infallible in matters faith and morals. I still believe in holy communion, even if Judas is the deliver of the Holy Host. (Satan’s powers can not negate communion with God) The truth and my beliefs are clearly stated in the Apostles’ Creed. The Laws of God are clearly stated in the Ten Commandments. My church is those who follow these beliefs. Obama is not the Messiah. The Messiah is the son of God. Obama is a community activist and agitator. Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah and the son of God. Adolph Hitler was a community activist, and has shown us the fruits of following false prophets. Yes, the evil one is now among us, casting his net. Those who join him shall be gifted with earthly riches and pleasures. But I am like God, and will serve only God and no other. Jesus has taught us that Satan has no power over men of good will, only .those who give him power over themselves. They are the ones who would betray God and sell their souls for their earthly goods and pleasures. But fear not, for Jesus has given us the power to render the evil one powerless against us. One need only ask of God, “Lead us not in temptation and deliver us from the evil one.” God Bless and Keep, Al.”

Very good article! Sadly, the tradition of men are always taking center stage, because the devil's work is DECEPTION, and religion is his basic ploy. Religion has nothing to do with salvation but everything to do with distraction. If Religion can keep man distracted with man-made rituals and rules, that will keep him from searching the truth. The second work of the devil is DUPLICATION. All the works and gifts done by the Holy Spirit can be duplicated by the devil, the only way to distinguish it is the question: "Who is glorified in this miracle/healing, God or man?" All works that glorify God come from Him, all works that glorify man ("saints") come from the devil.
You are right in saying we can only sift truth from error through the
living and active Word of God, not through man's encyclicals and theologies.

Well said and to the point and all true. I am sorry to say that most Obama supporters, I have found are ignorant and/or uninformed and fight hard to stay that way.

They are challenges my friend, mayby not to help us but certainly to help others. We are teachers, we teach compassion, humility. patience and understanding. So my friend let us teach. It is such a short life, lets you and I enjopy it.

Who Took Christ Out Of Xmas? (Article) - 12/3/2003 2:17:25 PM
I was told, somewhere, that the 'X' was a referent reference to Christ. I don't know where I read that, sorry. I appreciate your sentiment, even though I am Pagan. I do not celebrate Christ's birth but I can see why Christians might get upset. If I ever come across that reference again, I will let you know. Good writing!
