Portrait of a Sad Man (305 poems) (Book) - 10/18/2008 3:01:06 AM
Dear Georg Mateos!!! I read a lot of books in my life, I like, I love a lot of them. YOUR BOOK ''Portrait of a Sad Man''... if I will say that ''I like it,'' ''I love it'' it will be not enough, not enough to explain how many tears, how much pain and sadness I had in my heart, reading YOUR sentences. This BOOK will live century after century, like Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat. You can trust me, I'm a reader, a lover of BEAUTIFUL SENTENCES. After reading this BOOK, Shakespear himself could kneel in front of YOU, kiss YOUR hand, SHAKESPEAR could tell YOU: GEORG MATEOS, MY LORD, I HAVE TO GIVE YOU MY THRONE-THRONE OF MOST TALENTED WRITER, BECAUSE EVEN MY HEAVENLY BEAUTIFUL SONNETS ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH COMPARE TO YOUR 305 TALENTED, MOST BEAUTIFUL, HEAVENLY POEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAY GOD BLESS YOU, GEORG MATEOS, MAY HE WILL BRING HAPPINESS IN YOUR LONG-LONG LIFE EVERY DAY AND EVERY MINUTE!!!!!!!!!!!! Liana Margiva

George, I hope you will teach yourself to be your best critic. It's very important when you're starting out to write a lot, as you do I'm sure, but make sure you expose yourself to as much diversity in what you read as you can. As writer's we can never stop improving. Good Luck!

Parabéns, Poeta, do fundo do coração! What a Portrait... what a creation to look forward to viewing with those eyes that see well beyond those of the body! A Portrait to delve into, and feel the tears, the smiles, the heartbeats, the fear, the breath, the sighs, the screams... the eloquence of silences and the rushes of blood, all coursing through the veins of the Poet and seeping into our (the readers) own! Not a diary, as the Poet says... rather, the Poet himself, all flesh and soul, thus Life! Auguro-lhe grande e vivo sucesso, admirado e querido Amigo! Bravo! Um afectuoso e cálido abraço da Alexandra*

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/14/2009 8:35:22 AM
Edvard ... Certainly this was an outrageous moment in human history. But to fully absorb this heinous act, (I believe) would mean to have lived it personally. When the killing spirit grabs ahold there is little that will satisfy it's ravenous hunger except killing. Your story is a somber reminder that human civilization is always on the razors edge, and when it falls the carnage that inevitably results is unconscionable. I shudder to think what is coming in the near future. If scripture is accurate, (which i fully believe it is) it is going to be the worst tribulation since the Earth was formed. richard

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/12/2009 6:08:14 AM
Very good. I have seen a couple of documentaries on the fire bombing. I have a friend who escaped from Dresden with her Mom and sister just a few hours before the bombing. Did they know something, or was it fate? The bombing was calculated and cold hearted. J'nia

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/11/2009 3:57:01 PM
You open up the mind and the eyes of those who often only heard the glory and the one side of the death and destruction that was WWII. When I took Military History and Strategy they had only then began telling the real story of Dresden not the whitewashed publicity copy. fee

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/11/2009 6:45:59 AM
Well expressed,Georg. There is no getting away from it. Dresden was nothing less than a murderous act of ruthless hatred.

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/10/2009 3:38:06 PM
This was the horror of the Area Bombing Directive, which was nothing short of all-out mass murder of civilians. I believe the decision to bomb Dresden probably came at the behest of Stalin on one hand. During the Yalta Conference he most assuredly voiced his displeasure at the lack of Allied support on the Eastern Front. The Russians wanted to make sure that their armies could advance into Germany unimpeded and, as Dresden was a large rail and communications center, large amounts of Wehrmacht could have been collected and steered out of Dresedn into advancing Russian forces. On the other hand, I agree with what you said about the Allies testing their firepower; but I believe it was to actually make a display for Stalin himself. Remember, the thinking at the time was: who will get the share of the spoils when the war is over? You have this clash of Eastern and Western superpowers; so, I believe some of this was a way for the Allies to reming the Russians of their overwhelming air and firepower, in case Stalin decided to let the T-34s keep right on rolling toward the Channel or something. Then, of course, you have the retribution factor with blood boiling, which happens in any war. Ask any Allied pilot nowadays, he will probably agree in retrospect that the bombing was probably a bad idea. Even Churchill began to doubt the wisdom of this afterwards. Too little, too late. But, at the time, it all makes sense. Yes, war is hell. And yes, "Bomber" Harris was a sadistic bastard indeed. But then again, so were Goering and Himmler and that whole lot. I stood right at the place where all those bodies were stacked (Scheiterhaufen) in Dresden this past July. An unbelievably sad and moving experience. There is still so much evidence of the inferno and destruction anywhere you look. But it is nevertheless a breathtaking and beautiful city and most of it has been restored. I have digital pics of this. I'll have to send you some. Great stuff my friend. Right up my alley. Keep up the great work.

Walther's mother (Short Story) - 11/10/2009 3:10:13 PM
There was actually a fair amount of German-Russian exchange between the wars both culturally and militarily. It's quite sad to see how heads of state (influenced and financed by Western bankers, of course) can turn two great peoples against one another. Very interesting excerpt of pre-war German life. Look forward to reading more.

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/10/2009 1:05:08 PM
What a terrible, horrible story, Georg. During a war, though, with as much overall hatred as WW 2 it seems that at the time all was fair. I though, as a Jew, do not take a share of guilt in what the Allies did to end the war or, actually, if you wish to call Dresden "retribution." other, of course, than for the innocents that were caught in the cross-hair. There is a very good DVD, not as a documentary but as a drama, entailed "Dresden" that I thought was very good, and very chilling that I recommend you seeing. Yours is a very compelling and well written story, Georg. Your friend, Mark

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/10/2009 9:02:41 AM
Dear Georg, All those who committed such a heinous crime against humanity, play today the judges of the world. The Germans should and with right promote their grievance to the people of the world in order for them to know, the same way as they promoted the holocaust and Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I wonder if the world will once understand and learn that by doing such crimes they are giving a wrong example to other nations which now start to test the feeling of power, like those ruled by dictators, despots and autocrats. By killing human beings they are in fact killing their own brothers. Dresden we don’t forget you. Love Emile

Dresden, a burning city (Short Story) - 11/10/2009 6:57:47 AM
This speaks of admirable love and courage, in the face of overwhelming denial, an act of love for humanity, I compare this to Jesus telling his own, what they didn't want to hear, and you know what happened to him, you will most likely be crucified by your friends, the ones that don't want to see, the ones too cowardly to say so, and by doing so, and not opening their eyes, and prosecute it, will have it repeated and repeated again, because it is cowardness, that makes this sort of repetition of the human condition, be it Hitler and his henchmen, Pol Pot, Stalin, and so on and on it goes, cowardness of the actors in all of this, the ones that kept quiet under the nazies, and the forever all the others you mentioned, and the future generations to follow. Cowardness is our collective sin, you on the other hand, you my friend, would receive the purple heart the size of Dresden, for all the victims you gave another life to, you shall also be rewarded from the only guy that really counts, much bigger than a purple heart, and this is hard for me to say, because I am not religious, you are a true Christian, and you have restored, as a one man act all alone, some of my faith in Humanity. I didn't live in Dresden, only a small town, and though I sat among the phospour burning ruins in my own place, and know the anguish, Dresden was the epitome of evil visited upon by the righteous, forever sharing in Hitlers attrocities. This my friend, should be a best seller, if people would really like to hear the truth. May God protect you! and love you! and thank you! Hugs! Jasmin Horst

Walther's father (Short Story) - 10/9/2009 8:15:39 AM
A most interesting historical perspective of a very confusing moment of history. You express quite accurately the animosity felt by the traditional Prussian/ Wehrmacht officer vs. Heinrich Himmler's SS. The allure of the SS for many young people was that it thwarted the old Prussian Officer's Corps elitist attitude regarding the make-up of its ranks. They generally preferred educated, well-to-do officers with a good family name to come and apply. The SS, in turn, promised to do away with the old caste system and based their merits on those with the right racial characteristics and the right minds to be conformed to National Socialist ideaology. In other words, become a fanatic and you can forget about class issues. That was their esprit de corps, so to speak. Also, you explain the confused mind-set regarding the Jews in Germany at the time. A lot of Germans felt that the anti-semitism was going a bit far; but never thought it would advance to the point it did and accepted it on some level because they took the "good with the bad." Maybe they didn't like Hitler and the racial rhetoric; but economically their lives improved and Germany was becoming a player again on the world stage re-righting the wrongs inflicted by the Treaty of Versailles. All in all a good write. By the way, I see someone below has been asking you to write something about Dresden. I was just there in July and actually did write a quick little poem about Dresden, named "Dresden" funny enough. Took the picture myself. Also recently wrote a poem about Stalingrad called "Stalingrad." Yes, the creativity in naming those is magnificent, no?

Walther's father (Short Story) - 9/12/2009 4:50:56 PM
This “Excerpt from the book under work: The Life of Walther Alexander (or How to build a cold-blooded bastard)” did make me choreograph a dance that I would title, “The Rise of the Military Satanic INQUISITION”, just thinking on how high a powerful flying quill like yours can soar over the skies of indifference and ignorant leaders of this planet. I am certain that you will complete this book to its best level, and that “The Life of Walther Alexander” will be published soon to be a top historic book of our century. The last line of the first paragraph of "Walther's father" “... by a military analphabetic little corporal from Austria from a beer hall, not less.” echoes on my ear as a satire to the many thousand of highly Academic trained military officers and scientists that are led by violators of the Human Rights today. Last word of second paragraph., "Schtzstaffel," I read as SCHUTZSTAFFEL. The eleventh paragraph: “Of being Jew never being an issue, not like if he was a Negro or Arab or some other disgusting gleichsam Mensch.” – This sound like a satirical observation, “... gleichsam Mensch.” ... like human being. And it is a strong one. Thank you for sharing this introduction to your new book, “The Life of Walther Alexander”. In appreciation, Dixie Dawn Michelle

Walther's father (Short Story) - 9/12/2009 4:14:01 PM
Georg I gets the feeling you are standing on a stage overseeing a scripted play, a play you are deeply and intrinsically related to somehow, yet viewed and directed from a culture foreign to the one you write about. All of them have their light and dark side, and some times the waves of light and dark come in beats directed by forces overwhelming. How these induviduals become who they are, you have to go much further back to be fair, to the preceding ones. I can relate to much of the cultural aspects, not just Walther or Erich, or Juergen even, for I lived it in some respects. The Junkers, Walhalla, or all the history induvidual, or total is the people and their lives, including the Nazis, not isolate from behaviour en total. Misguided idealism no matter where, bents families their descendants and makes history, I don't know whereto this is leading, from Abraham, to Erich, or Walther, if we ar looking at the act of bombing Dresden, I would think, you will not find enough Nazis, their forefathers and descendants, to make light of hell provided with the compliments of the angels of the lords vengeance, and the epaulets they wear on their hereos bomber jackets, sorry, I will read on.... Of course this is not saying it is not well written, it is as always, but when I asked you write about he bombing of Dresden before you and I kick the bucket, a personal romance novel, if it is with the dodo bird the nazies or whomever is not important, as I see it, still I love you as always, but cut to the chase will ya, I am getting older and so are you. Hugs! Juergen

Walther's father (Short Story) - 9/12/2009 4:51:02 AM
Georg. I am writing this not because you asked me to, although I should have when I first read it when "Walther's Father" first appeared, but more so because, after reading it at least three times I can now come up with an opinion. I feel this should be the outline of a much larger story that expands the characters to more than a sentence or two. You've introduced us to Walther, a non-feeling, non-loving man that cares more of what is seen by others than what is felt within his heart and home. You've introduced us to his wife, also seeming to be a non-feeling, selfish woman. You barely touch upon the children and now bring into the story what seems to be the only warm person, the truly likable Abraham. You have a very interesting period of time here, pre-Nazi Germany and characters, most of whom readers may learn to love to hate, which is always interesting and fun to read. I think you have the makings of a novel. But as a short story, the reason that I have not commented up to now is because it did and does confuse me. You have great knowledge of the period in time and the makings of very interesting characters for a novel but I think care should be given not in the words you use, but in the way the words are presented because very often your sentence structure tends to confuse. All in all, for me, this seems more as an outline than a story and I think you should take the time to expand it to a novel. Your friend, Mark

Letter to the President (Article) - 11/3/2009 6:46:34 PM
George- dead on the money. If anything cries for reform now its the pathetic treatment of veterans by the politicians who all seem to spew hot air but haven't the integrity to put our money where we want it to go. Veterans don't just deserve this simple demand they require it for all of us to be able to enjoy any of the freedoms we still do. you have my full support. God bless our veterans and to steal some of the right Reverand Wright's thunder, "God damn the politicians. Amen Dave Ross-D. Kenneth Ross

Great letter, Georg. If only it could get to him, although with the faith I have in this guy no matter what you or anyone might say to him I think will mean absolutely nothing because he hates the military and if one was wounded, well, maybe he shouldn't have volunteered to go. Your friend, Mark

Soldiers coming back from Iraq/ Afghanistan to a foreclosed house, to unemployment and a long string of years to get their claims right to be processed. What an incredibly sad and unacceptable situation, Georg. I do appreciate the solution/s you have offered. Perhaps someone will try to implement them. Love and peace my friend, Regis

GEORG - BRAVO! LET ALL CROOKED RAT-BASTARDS BEWARE! 1. I APOLOGIZE - for never visiting your site before now! I'll be BACK! 2. You stole my Thunder - i.e. I just decided today to write a piece tonight, entitled "VETERANS UNITE!" - suggesting EXACTLY what you already wrote - ALL ASSEMBLE IN D.C. AT ONCE, HOPEFULLY, THIS JULY 4TH - bring D.C. to a total STANDSTILL - DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED! 3. Your suggestion of STAFFING VA with ALL VETERANS IS EXCELLENT! These proud men and women who already served - ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY - would do so AGAIN - WITH DIGNITY! TO HELP THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS! 4. I have written and sent similar letters before - to BUSH - to OBAMA - not once even an acknowledgement! Our TALK (and Writing) is CHEAP - ACTION IS NOW REQUIRED. 5. Just look at the MILLIONS of plain poor people MARCHING IN THE STREETS OF IRAN - AND THEY ARE NOT FREE, LIKE WE ARE! 6. VUN - V-U-N ... VETERANS UNITE NOW! May God Bless - You - Ed Kostro - Marcia Miller-Twiford - Karla Dorman - and every single VETERAN that ever put on a UNIFORM! NOW, I'M FULL OF PISS N' VINEGAR - and will write my little 'piece.' TOM HYLAND ... only a former 'Weekend Warrior' - but - ALWAYS A PATRIOT.

Letter to the President (Article) - 6/8/2009 3:08:50 AM
The problems has left to grow and fester with the complacency of those involved during too many years. So very sadly true. And I would disagree with those that say that raising your voice is a waste of time. If we all started raising our voices, and voicing our concerns, perhaps someone will finally start listening. There is power in numbers. I think our leaders, and our citizens, have all been far too complacent, for far too long.

Letter to the President (Article) - 6/6/2009 4:11:11 PM
This letter will never fly. Know why? It makes sense! Anything that makes sense is immediately dismissed on Capital Hill these days by the idiots that run the asylum. It does not put money in their pockets,it was not thought up by them, it does not give them face time and it is the right thing to do; therefore the liberals will make sure it will not get done. Obama will lead the pack in the objections.

Letter to the President (Article) - 6/6/2009 3:14:00 PM
Georg such a great letter right on the money let us hope he reads it and acts on it sincerely Tuchy

Letter to the President (Article) - 6/6/2009 1:18:36 PM
Good for you Georg. I hope President Obama gets to read your letter but that's doubtful. "They" also need to address the plight of the widows of disabeled veterans. A woman spends her life lovingly caring for her husband who was injured fighting for our country. The man needs assistance with daily living and most live in pain for the rest of their lives and are unemployable. The wife cares for him. The veteran's disability is rated on a scale of 10 to 100% and he is paid a disability pension in accordance with his rating for the remainder of his lifetime. When he dies his wife gets nothing unless the veteran was rated at 100%. She suddenly finds herself without husband or income and she's elderly and unskilled having lived her life as her husband's wife/nurse. To me this is a crime. I know of a woman who spent 38 years caring for her husband who lived in a wheelchair and needed help with almost everything. She's now living in the basement of her son's house, pennyless. Her late husband was rated at 90% disabeled.

The War at Home (Article) - 6/5/2009 2:39:14 PM
It is shamful and sad the way governments and not just the United States but also Canada treats their veterans. I was not a vet but I worked for my government for thirty years only to be forced into early retirement adn bankruptchy when they screwed up my pension over and over. It is sad we are forgotten when we need them Fee

The War at Home (Article) - 6/5/2009 5:05:24 AM
Hi Georg, I don't understand the lack of support for the Veterans. It's like the government doesn't care about them after they did what they were called to do. Maybe it's a sort of genocide, in the gov's mind. It's worse than a sad commentary on this government, and our society to have allowed such a lack. And sorry doesn't cut it... In Spirit, Bear

The War at Home (Article) - 6/5/2009 3:26:33 AM
The last time that veterans marched on Washington was back in 1932, after the Great Depression, and for similar reasons. And they were chased out of D.C. with tear gas. Our nation should be horrendously ashamed by how we treat our veterans, and it has been going on for many years. The backlog of veteran disability claims has now reached almost a million cases, and as you say, it takes forever for a veteran's case to even be heard. Veteran unemployment rates are staggering right now and higher than the national average, as are their home foreclosure rates. Our veterans have now reached another Great Depression. But instead of being greeted with tear gas, as they were in 1932, today's veterans should be supported by far more of our citizens, who need to finally start advocating on their behalf.

Authors Bailout Invitation (Article) - 3/6/2009 9:04:40 AM
Sir, Just wanted to say thank you to you and your Crew for thinking this up, hammering out the details and then placing it into motion! More than a few years ago a very good friend of mine, a feature film director and writer asked me to join AD on his dime. It was, and has been one of the turning points in my life as a writer and self-published author. AD has been a home to me ever since then and I can’t imagine sailing away. Georg, you and your Crew are some very fine people. Thank you for being part of the AuthorsDen community of writers and readers. More importantly, thank you for making it a better place. Sail on… sail on!!!

At the Beginning He Said... (Article) - 3/5/2009 10:16:07 AM

In God's Name? (Article) - 2/28/2009 6:23:58 PM
Hello Georg, Thank you for writing this, not all religion is about God. We must not always equate religion with the biblical perception of who God is, because some are cults and human beliefs formed in contradiction to what Jesus Christ taught. If ever they were into the "Holy Spirit" as they allege, which I doubt, this would never happen. There was no mention of any place in particular for verification, so I rest my case. I don't think Obama had anything to do with the way this culture/religion has been running that country, wherever it is. "Religion" and corruption in other countries come from lack of education and poverty, giving birth to abuse, murder, violence. This is a job for the UN, not for the US. Lastly, the "Crusades" were done by the Catholic church, not by the Christian Church. Research will show the big difference between the two. To delineate TRUTH from ERROR, read the Bible. Cynthia

Sometime oblivion is the only escape. A buffer against the emptiness. Powerfully done.

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 10:12:13 AM
My hand raises in sincere salute to you Georg my friend and peer. This work is deep, intense and speaks with the presence of mind of one who has known the best of life and sadly the worst of life. I felt this one way down inside and to me as a poet that is the best compliment I can give for it what I judge my own work on. Great work my friend. fee

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 9:55:27 AM

Or are you just crying into your Coors??????????????,I think, you are thinking too much, write that book, and you'll be remembered for a long time, get on with it. Hugs! Jasmin Horst

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 9:41:29 AM
These thoughts could apply to most of the third world. As well as most of the veterans that gave so much and came home to cold shoulders. Blessings ... r

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 8:36:09 AM
And I saw the chaos, first hand: B.Lack and Blue Friday, when all the idiots get out there to be the first in line to get the must have items. Could have waited to go to the store, but Karen sick: colds wait for no one. Saw people fighting, shoving, yelling at the top of their lungs. And then there are some of us who won't be having a Christmas this year. The elderly. Disabled. Worst of all, many Veterans. Shame. Powerfully penned sadness, George. Well done. (((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 8:20:35 AM
There are no words to describe how this poem makes me feel that would serve it justice. I can only say, You really know how to hit those chords in all of us. We have become a society of selfish beings. Something must give soon. Much peace, love, and light, Amber "V"

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 7:40:58 AM
Sometimes, Georg, there are not enough words, or, for me, sometimes the words escape my mind when I want to respond to words such as these. How can anyone of conscience forget or discard those that have given so much so we can be safe in homes or safe in our lives or to give a helping hand to our neighbors. Your friend; Mark

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 7:39:53 AM

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 7:21:24 AM
Sad one, Georg; I know how you feel! I wish they'd help the Veterans, the elderly, and the disabled, not just the children! There are plenty of adults who could use a helping hand, especially now with Christmas coming up! (((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :(

Oblivion... (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 7:14:31 AM
This is just as sad as when I was finally able to read it on your last post. And I truly hope we will all make an effort to finally recognize those disregarded or forgotten, especially our valiant vets.

State of being disregarded (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 6:45:08 AM
the state of being disregarded or forgotten So very sad, especially when it happens on a large scale, like it has for far too long in our nation, for far too many valiant vets.

State of being disregarded (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 3:44:07 AM
being disregarded is when a person who has preached for 50 years is told by a person that he knows as much because "I read the Bible." I love this, Georg

State of being disregarded (Poetry) - 11/27/2009 3:36:53 AM
Good one, Georg; someone else I feel who is being disregarded by society are our elderly or handicapped citizens, and ESPECIALLY our Veterans; everything's for the kids. That's okay, but what about ADULTS who are struggling, and they can't help it?? We'd like a helping hand, too!! (Saw an article about a football player who donated $2 million to a children's hospital in Michigan; it made me mad.) (((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :(
