A Simple Theft (revised) (Short Story) - 7/2/2007 7:07:56 PM
I'm intrigued. Especially appreciate main character having a conscience that reflects on implications of his villainous actions. Some words/phrases are ambiguous (e.g., "megacred" mansion) yet tolerable because of my anticipation of later clarifying context. Impressed with your work. Keep it coming...
Does God Prove God to the Devil? (Article) - 12/13/2008 6:06:22 AM
The existence of God, and Satan, is a myth created in the imaginations of man. For one thing, a supreme being would be of such complexity how could such a being exist before the most rudimentary elements of the universe were present. If God created the universe as believers assert, this logically suggests a completely illogical sequence of events - ultimate complexity prior to the most elementary physical universe as we know it. Of course believers will say, "God's ways as not our ways," and the like. Or as one believer advised me earlier this week, God 'breathed' the Biblical truths to the men who set down the books of the Bible. These arguments for God simply don't fly. It is true the universe has postive and negative energy and indeed there is right and wrong but these are choices people make. " The only law there that there need be - you shall not take away the free from any man, though different he." Relgions seek to dicatate peoples behavior and Islamic fundamentalism is particularly a threat to civilization, Science, free thinkers, and secular humanists. Respectfully yours. Malcolm Watts

Only Mike Huckabee (Article) - 2/6/2008 1:52:03 PM
I'm glad to see someone speaks the truth. It's been frustrating not to hear too many people talk about this issue. Huckabee is a great candidate.

A Failure of Faith. (Article) - 5/7/2007 6:53:01 PM
Gerald, I have read this article of yours and found it most interesting.
1. Collectiveness of Events
In reference to September 11, 2001 God did not allow this to happen. This happened at the hand of man. I understand the theory of balance as you say, "Good is balanced by Evil, Evil is balanced by Good" (As we say, reward and punishment, same thing.) To blame God is wrong. No matter the name, it is still God! Whata is that saying: "A rose by any other name, is still a rose". Well, God by whatever name he is referred to is still God, right?
2. Personal Bodyguard
This is where we all turn a blind eye. As long as people fully understand the environment they are in, or choose to be in, they should also be aware of the consequences. These are all man made decisions and you are right, God is not to be taken as a personal body guard. Would that not fall under being self-centered and selfish? To my understanding it is for mankind to follow God's teaching for the salvation of one's soul, not for materialistic gains.
I have lived where hurricanes washed everything away, lived where earthquakes demolished all, lived where tornadoes swallow up whole towns. Is this God's fault? Should he have been "protecting" me? Watching over me? Am I deserving? Of course not, these were my, a human beings choice, nothing more, nothing less.
Most humans are destined to take calculated risks, at times become arrogant and push the envelope. That is what we do, right, wrong or indifferent. Is this God's fault? No, it was choices made by humans.
Sir, we were attacked and the beautiful Twin Towers that I watched being put together, fell on September 11, 2001. I know, we lost a family member that day, a firefighter. His body was found, or what was left of it on March 12, 2002, buried March 15, 2002.
Your words speak of the unspoken truth. We are becoming a secular nation, sad too. The more we allow others to remove God from our schools, societies, businesses, government, military to name a few, something inevitably will fill the void.
I only speak from my own opinions and observations. I have tried mosst of my life to give to others, asking nothing in return. Yet in today's world I just continuously get pushed aside. You already know the saying. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you". It just does not apply anymore because most people are too busy being concerned for themselves.
Everything today that I hear is "me, me, me." Do not think there can even be a group to speak of with this attitude, am I wrong? Doing my best to learn and respect other religions and their beliefs, I find most do not. It becomes very difficult to respect others when they do not repect yours. How do you break the cycle?
3. Potter and Clay
In my opinion, when God calls us home either our work on earth has been completed or we have failed miserably and he wants to prevent us from going any further and causing more damage.
You know, I am not a saint and far from perfect. Have my faults, not of God's doing. Monetarily and materialistically did not have much most of my life, but always had my beliefs and spirituality that no one could ever take away.
I spent my life growing things, making things and doing for others. The satisfaction comes when I see the smile on a once sad, dissillusioned face.
When it is my turn to face God I will do it with pride, both eyes open, run the list of the good thanks and not so good things. As one human being I will not be afraid to meet my maker. I will go knowing htat with all my faults i always strived to do my best.
Sir, what religion a person chooses to follow is secondary to following the teachings of God. I am and will remain Roman Catholic, a soldier of Gods word and teachings, but that does not make me any better or worse than anyone else.
Much Respect for you,
Karen
