Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates (Book) - 1/28/2009 1:44:02 PM
This book has given me the comfort that I will see my horse Blaze when I go to heaven along with my family. This book is so enjoyable I cannot put it down. God Bless Gary for this. I always thought that we would see our precious animals again. And now I can rest assured that it will happen.....

Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates (Book) - 1/16/2009 7:27:21 PM
Your book sounds wonderful. I lost my 14 year old Jasmine to bladder cancer last year. Her companion of 13 years, Baby, died 3 months later of a broken heart. The day I put Jasmine to sleep, I told Baby she would no longer be with us. She hung her head in understanding of our loss, and crawled under the bed for several days. When I took Baby in to be put to sleep, I told her that she could now see Jasmine. Just before she went to sleep, I could tell she understood what I said and know it brought her comfort. Losing them left me empty for a long while, even after I got 2 new dogs. Thank you for bringing comfort to a grieving pet owner.

I stumbled on this today and boy it hit me hard. my collie pack were all around the same age. I lost Annie at 13, Alex at 14 and Roxi at 12 all within a year of each other. Zuri, I think, felt it the worst. She mourned. I mourned. We still mourn. I'd love to read your book. Patrica A. Guthrie Waterlilies Over my Grave 2008 In the Arms of the Enemy 2007

Bigfoot or Not, You Tell Me (Short Story) - 6/2/2008 5:19:06 AM
Enjoyed the piece on Bigfoot. I graduated high school at Manhattan, 1964. I live now in Oregon and write a column on Bigfoot for three weekly newspapers. About the leaves, I don't see why a Sasquatch couldn't be matted with leaves. I enjoyed reading your article on Bigfoot.

Bigfoot or Not, You Tell Me (Short Story) - 1/28/2008 11:55:42 AM
I really like this story, Gary -- a lot! It is your style of writing which brings that edge of belief. Well done! As someone who has lived in the forests of the Northwest, I can tell you -- it is not Bigfoot (no leaves on Bigfoot). But, somehow, your description reminds me of one of the legendary creatures from Indian lore (Northeast and up into Canada). I do not know where or when I read it, but the memory is there. Very nicely presented. Ted

Bumper Stickers (Short Story) - 8/15/2007 7:50:01 PM
Hilarious, what a story, I loved it. You told that so well I could see the kids bouncing, singing their taunts, then shuffling in their seats singing, "Yay Grandpa, you did it" Great Job!

Difficult Passages in the Bible  (Article) - 4/18/2009 3:16:30 PM
Religion is based on ignorance, superstition and fables. Indeed without a brain and nervous system one cannot think nor speak yet we read of this God,,gods or Angels speaking to this or that person or persons which is ridiculous. I think what cannot be proven do not exist.

What on Earth is God Doing (Article) - 12/17/2008 1:11:53 AM
A great read! A must read for prayer partners. One thing is left out. What did your friends father give as a reason for not answeing? As we know, Our Father in Heaven always answers prayer in His time. Waiting for an answer seems like eternity but it builds character. Thank you for sharing. Yours in Christ, John Michael Domino, Major, USAF (ret.)

What if Heaven Was a Shock to You (Article) - 1/21/2008 7:28:22 PM
Whatever happens to a mortal at the end of their life we can be sure that it happens inside the brain just as while alive we maintain our own evolving perspective of reality in the brain. Whether that is extinguishment of the electric spark that resides with sentience, as I suspect, or something else, no one knows for sure. Perhaps some, while they live, could be enthralled with the idea of being a bodiless spirit sitting around absorbing the radiance of a daddy figure for infinite time, but I agree with Malcolm. I am happiest with the idea that at the end of my time as a sentient being I will return to the state I held before sentience, which would have been extremely boring except that I was not conscious. I suspect that I will have that same shield from boredom after death. BTW, I was privileged to have lived, something that incomprehensible numbers of potential beings never had an opportunity to experience. I am not such a selfish ingrate that I would make a claim for more life than the one that it has been my consummate pleasure to enjoy. Best regards, Leland

What if Heaven Was a Shock to You (Article) - 1/21/2008 11:58:22 AM
The biggest surprise would be if heaven exists at all. Human religion, mythology, legends, arose with the dawn of awareness - sentient ability. Along with sentience came an awareness of our eventual death - something other animals, so far as we know, do not share. The whole idea of heaven sounds tedious to me - whether it is worship or golf although I suspect it is neither of these. The idea of eternal life, rather than a gift, seems an onerous burden - to much for me anyway. 70 or so years on planet earth is good enough for me. There are lots of people - let new generations of people discover and enjoy the earth. There is no need for us to expect more the universe in my view. All the best. Malcolm Watts

What if Heaven Was a Shock to You (Article) - 1/21/2008 9:32:49 AM
What is Heaven? - maybe we have it all wrong and there is more fun in Hell LOL Seriously - I think very few of us are worthy enough to go to heaven so there must be an Intermediate State. . .

Can You Pass the Christmas Quiz (Article) - 12/22/2007 11:02:13 PM
Well done, Gary. Almost all of the "well known" Nativity details are only in songs/stories, shrouded in the mystery of no real information. Somewhere in my studies I read that 25 December was picked because of its proximity to the Winter Solstice (Roman astrologers) -- the longest night of the year when goodness and evil were thought to hold their breath in some sort of balance. There are a few differing "origin" stories. Interesting stuff! Ted

Darwin Endorses Christianity (Article) - 9/8/2007 4:57:38 PM
You said that so well. I hope you will visit my web site. I have a story that should be considered an essay. That is what I called it because that is what it is. THe name is "Does Satan Exist?" which you could read. I would like to look up some of the things you said on the internet. After this is over I will try a web search including key words such as Tierra del Fuego + Darwin to see where that takes me.

Pet Loss: When Your Friends Don't Seem to Care (Article) - 7/20/2007 12:01:42 AM
Gary, Very insightful and poignant indeed. The loss can be traumatic and often times a "silent grace" is perhaps the best Rx to give to someone. A lot can be said without saying a word.

Making the Big Decision to Euthanize (Article) - 7/17/2007 6:28:02 AM
well said, it is never easy to say goodbye to any family member, but at least with critters we can make the choice that they not suffer, given a choice between slow painful wasting away and goodbye before I am a slavering pain wracked shell I wish I were a cat

Making the Big Decision to Euthanize (Article) - 7/15/2007 4:27:47 PM
I wish I'd never had any animals in my life. They have wasted so much precious time. Who's idea was it to keep an animal isolated with a bunch of humans?

People, Not Animals Have a Sixth Sense (Article) - 7/8/2007 1:58:30 PM
It seems it would be hard to look at the beauty and complexity of the universe, not to mention the workings of the human/animal body, and not see the handiwork of an Almighty Creator. Actually I wonder if animals are not somewhat aware of God in their own way also.

Souls of Animals (Article) - 7/8/2007 1:33:25 PM
This is beautifully and sensibly written in a way that reaches to the depths of the soul to impress upon us that all living things are the work of our Almighty Creator's hand and that our precious eternal life comes from Him. God is love, and His love is in us, humans and animals alike, and that part of us that loves never dies. That's so profound when our finite minds can really get a grasp on it. And it's a most comforting thing to hold on to when we lose a friend, pet, or loved one to physical death. I look over at my sleeping dogs and realize that they're not just 'beasts' but sweet souls in whose furry bodies live God's almighty and eternal life. Just yesterday I had to say 'goodbye' to an old friend who'd lived almost his entire 13 years at the pet shelter where I work. He was a sweet soul who loved and was loved back. I know I'll see him again someday at the pearly gates, along with many other pets, family members, and friends. Don't you just get tears of joy when you realize what a day that's going to be! Thank you, Gary, for your wonderful writings. God's given you a beautiful gift. I recommend EVERYONE read Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates!

Souls of Animals (Article) - 7/3/2007 12:23:11 AM
Very done, Gary, and points well researched and presented! We must also keep in mind that much of New Age thought is taken from cultures whose ancestors never had the opportunity to read Biblical texts, but God was not out of touch with them, so we see colorful mythologies, metaphors for the same basic truths. One example comes from an early American Indian mythology which taught that a child was born with an "animal spirit," with the "human spirit" coming onboard at around the age of four, and they taught that the body of flesh was a vehicle for the spirit(s). These studies are fascinating. Good one, Gary! Ted

Good first attempt. Hope to read many more. You can do it, we all did. We always do want what was not, but are given what we need. The Yearning says lots in such small amount of words.
