Fable of Figs (Short Story) - 10/17/2007 8:00:43 PM
When I was 6, my brother told me peas were cool to eat because they popped like zits in your mouth. I've never liked them since! When I lived in Peru, me and a friend spent 2 hours sitting up in a fig tree just eating figs--soooooo delicious, but our lips went numb from the skin. Now I know why. I'll have to warn my kids. --Charlie

Eight Hours Of Heaven (Short Story) - 5/13/2007 3:34:37 PM
My dear Sherry, I see no one has left a review of this lovely story for nearly a year. Too bad. They don't know what they missed. As Ronald Hull (below) stated, this "event" was commonplace during World War II. Life and emotions got speeded up because the only time you had was this very moment. Tomorrow was uncertain. Life and your whole future was uncertain. So every moment burned with great intensity. I am blessed beyond belief. I met the girl of my dreams when I was only fourteen (a few days after her 14th birthday). It was 1947. The war was over, but meeting her was an unexpected and emotional event. Our story ends beautifully. We've now been married fifty-five years. Every day her presence makes my life glow with meaning. Eight Hours of Heaven is a lovely story that captures the mood and emotions of the time. My story tells you that these moments do happen. "For all we have in life is Love." Thank you for allowing me to relive the feeling of a wonderful time. Richard

Eight Hours Of Heaven (Short Story) - 6/25/2006 9:40:20 AM
That story was repeated a thousand times over during WW II. So many heavens ended in tragedy. For some reason, two of my three uncles in the war, divorced and remarried during the war. Ron

Dear Sherry Gail Its only when we really love and cherish a person that we can have a whacky moment. Stevie's imagination was on top form and he shared it with you. That's brotherly love. As for me, I love figs and always will. But maybe soon, its a story I can tell grandchildren all over again. A great submission. Miller

Eight Hours Of Heaven (Short Story) - 12/28/2005 8:04:06 PM
And wasn't that a delightful read. Being a former military person I was all set to get cynical halfway through this starlit romance but, quite frankly, the beauty and innocence of it kidnapped my heart and won me over. Such a joyfully warm story masterfully told on this chilly winter night. Thank you.

Originally that is why people dressed up as witches or ghost, ghouls, werewolves, mummies and such, The real monsters wouldn't catch them. People centuries ago were very superstitious. Broomsticks (Poetry) - 11/2/2011 10:11:00 AM
Totally love that picture's caption - a classic! Has a picture-book quality to it, Sherry, that, for me, takes the horror out of Halloween and replaces it with something altogether more palatable (in the blood, gore and terror stakes!) Reminds me to check my face in the mirror this evening...! :)) xx

Broomsticks (Poetry) - 10/30/2011 10:18:22 AM
A howling good write. Your picture reminds me of the scariest witches I ever saw–those in the Wizard of Oz. My brother's wife, is still a good looker at 70, dressed up for a witch picture with her granddaughter last week. Except for some green coloring for her skin, she doesn't need any makeup to look the part. Ron

Cats (Poetry) - 10/28/2011 7:55:03 PM
Beautiful poem, very inspirational indeed but, Sherry do not wish to come back like any other cat as you would otherwise have to fend for your life in a tough war situation if you happen to be a Somali cat!. Smile.

Sweet Babe of Mine (Poetry) - 7/28/2011 11:10:47 AM

I Never Dared To Say Goodbye (Poetry) - 7/28/2011 11:06:07 AM
I am so so sorry for your loss and the pain of regret. Its taken a long time for me to compose myself enough to review this one. What an amazing poem, thankyou so much for writing it, I could have written it about myself (except that I wouldn't have done such a good job) The man I loved died not knowing how I felt about him, we were soulmates for ten years and one word we never could learn was "goodbye" It is his birthday today. Reading your poem has really helped. Thankyou soooooooo much. Hugs. God bless. Baz

Cats (Poetry) - 7/9/2011 7:17:53 AM
Sherry, I have 13 cats and I have to agree. You feed and water them, clean their litter box, they have it made! But I couldn't live without my babies and their unconditional love. I really enjoyed this, and yes, I think the cats of today were very good people reincarnated. Purrfect. Mary

Cats (Poetry) - 7/9/2011 6:13:11 AM
A cute one. When we are long gone, cats will survive quite nicely, thank you. Good to see you back writing poetry. I thought you were going to write about the haboobs you caused in Phoenix. ;-) Ron

Cats (Poetry) - 7/9/2011 5:22:42 AM
Hey girl, its good to see you writing, you have been missed...now as for cats, well, I can pet them and be friends with them, just can't live with them as I love dogs...and I will have another one day again, but for now I have no pets except my stuffed ALF doll...;-) ed

Cats (Poetry) - 7/9/2011 4:02:39 AM
I don't believe, as does George, that cats are supreme. They have that haughty facade about them, and they are geared to be more free. Dogs are the opposite, they love unconditionally, and am always happy to see you, always wanting to please. I like cats and believe that more women like cats than men is because of their wild nature and unpredictably, much like the human female species. Good to see you again, Sherry.

Cats (Poetry) - 7/9/2011 1:22:29 AM
I don't believe in reincarnation, but if I were to come back to life, I'd want to be a cat. Cats rule and dogs DROOL (sorry, dog fans)! Adorable poem that describes a cat with a capital C!! And Sidekick and Jackson are both precious! Awwe! (((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :D +purring contentedly at this poem+

Cats (Poetry) - 7/8/2011 11:42:45 PM
No doubt about it cats are supreme but I still like dogs better.

Ship Across The Moon (Poetry) - 1/27/2011 10:55:51 AM
We can see many thingsin our dreams and go anywhere and do anything. Some of our dreams become reality and a goal in life. Other dreams are just life's whimsy, a fantasy that takes our mind on a surreal journey while we sleep. Oh what can it mean, when we but dream? Thank you sis for this lovely poem and thank you so much for making me smile. :-) May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Ship Across The Moon (Poetry) - 1/11/2011 5:13:09 PM
Oh how wonderful! It reminded me of our 'Ship of Dreams' which I sailed in across the world with my grandchildren! It was our sofa...but it transformed when we all boarded it together...This poem has a lovely childlike feel to it and reminded me in some ways ofthe classic 'The Owl and the Pussycat'...Thoroughly enjoyed every line! (I have recently bought a new sofa... and the 'ship of dreams' has sadly gone forever..)Love and Hugs, Diana...

Ship Across The Moon (Poetry) - 1/10/2011 1:25:37 PM
So visual, Sherry, I could see this ship as if she lived and breathed high up in my windows! Her sails were white as fallen snow Her rails waxed to glossy shine Her portholes clear as fresh blown glass With no mist from dulling brine Beautifully sing-song and atmospheric... a sure winner with adults and children alike. We two DO seem to be in the wars! Rest up and mend... you've learned a new skill already! Thanks also for your good wishes. Am doing fine! xx

Hollow (Poetry) - 10/9/2010 3:53:23 AM
This reminds me of the song One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack)where she sings: "Go ahead and hate your neighbor go ahead and cheat a friend do it in the name of heaven you can justify it in the end there won't be any trumpets blowing come the judgment day on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away". There are way too many charlatans in our country professing to be the voice of God almighty, but yet, one minister says burn the Koran and another says yoga is unchristian like. So, where do we go from here? We are borrowing money from China and other countries just to stay afloat. What agreements did our government make for this bailout? Has our democratic principles been buried in the sand, never again to be found? As long as Old Glory waves above my head, I will be glad to call myself an American, and I will defend the freedoms that Old Glory and Lady Liberty stand for. This reminds me of Lee Greenwood's song God Bless The USA, where he says: "And I'll gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless The USA". Let freedom ring from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, let the freedom of the ages come back and gives us that mighty spirit we once had that we fought so well against King George, and to keep this country whole in the civil war, and how we fought with bravery against the Kaiser, against Adolf Hitler, and communist china in Korea and Vietnam. "On second thought I do like to brag I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag" So let's keep God's light shining on thee from sea to shining sea. Thank you for sharing sis and sorry for the rant, but when I read of people demeaning what our country is all about and the principles we stand for, my blood just boils. GO AMERICA! May the Lord Bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and walk by your side. With love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister Barbie.

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/13/2010 2:22:33 PM
A modern day Isaiah! Remarkable poem, seeing beyond the smokescreen; avoiding the sleeping gas. Being Awake! Poignancy, as I've never read before. I wonder how many have read this, but dissed it? If America were to come out and speak like you, brave and true. It would win its respect again. And we'd here the founding fathers cheer! This is quality.

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/11/2010 6:00:08 AM
poignant words-well done!

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/10/2010 3:11:44 PM
Sherry, you hit the nail on the head. I, a majority of one, will always stand up to those [even from my own family] who want to rape our planet and get away with it, throw our freedom to the wind to save their assets unworked for, and screaming religious belief that would make Jesus roll over in his grave. Ron

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/10/2010 2:15:43 PM
My words can never do justice to your powerfully meaningful verses, Sherry. You are so right on! Thank you. Love and best wishes, Regis

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/10/2010 8:09:03 AM
I think you say what a lot of not only Americans but Canadians as well are thinking...great write although the subject is a painful one for those of honour and hope fee

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/10/2010 3:46:07 AM
A salutory yet clear-eyed view of what appears to be taking place all over in unquenchable streams of madness yet also in the name of progress and democracy. Commerce and politics practice their own views of expedience and they are seldom ones that make for the global common good... only their instigators' short-term goals. Yes, Sherry... no matter what we might sit down to write about, the subconscious will have her say. Right between the eyes, this one. Bless you. xx

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/10/2010 2:55:30 AM
The numbers are changing and it's you and I who are doing it. Never silence one voice or freedom is lost and you are enslaved. In the book of life you write the next chapter. Do not be intimidated or afraid to stand for your rights under the Constitution of the United States. George

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/9/2010 8:39:57 PM
"we are the hollow men ... headpiece full of straw" ... exceptionally powerful poem, Sherry... it's truisms are very disconcerting ...

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/9/2010 5:04:11 PM
Yes. The oceans have been poisoned, soon we won't have dolphins. Food is bad, I try not to partake. The dollar is evil. I agree that we have sunk to a new low, and that no one seems to know how to think. Yes, our birthright is a thing of the past. Sorry I misunderstood your meaning. Hope this is better.

Hollow (Poetry) - 9/9/2010 5:03:44 PM
It does cause dismay, so sad! I liked your poem, though. Blessings, Christine

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 7/19/2010 4:48:19 AM
You're so right. Time-change is a big headache for workers. It takes quite a while for the clock in the brain to adjust to it. You're also right about the retirement part: the time change don't make a bit of difference

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 7/4/2010 4:34:18 AM
I can remember when there was no time change in the spring or the fall. But men being men decided that since it got ligher earlier and stayed lighter later that we should have a time to reflect that. I am an extra class amateur radio operator and we go by UTC or universal time coordinated. In UTC there is no time change, and 6:00pm is 0 hour with 7pm being 0100 hours. Daylight savings time is what I call false time because it is actually man made time and not solar time. I agree with Sherry that we should just have one time. Daylight savings time should go the way of disco because it has outlived it's usefullness. Let's go back to the time when the only time we had was was solar time, or as near to it as we can get on our clocks anyway. May the Lord Bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and walk by your side. I Never Dared To Say Goodbye (Poetry) - 6/29/2010 4:59:13 AM
Beautiful images mixed expertly with longing and regret. May we all find the courage to learn from your words and say "I love you" when we have the chance. Thanks for sharing this deeply personal poem.

Life Rhythms (Poetry) - 6/29/2010 4:54:40 AM
A lovely poem Sherry. The sentiment woven through your words is very moving and inspiring.

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 4/11/2010 2:26:33 PM
I never got used to the clocks going back last October... now I can't believe it's as late as it is since the clocks went forward again a few weeks' ago. Guess I'm destined to be continually out of sync. Tight writing here, Sherry, which just goes to show that sleepless and grumpy is also good for the inner muse! :)) Just also want to say how sorry I am that you have first-hand experience of some despicable inhumanity, Sherry. I do hope my writing on the subject has not rubbed new salt into old wounds. You are such an amazingly resiliant, strong and beautiful woman in body, mind and soul. Doubtless your hardships have also helped to forge and galvanise your personal immortal beauty of which you can never be robbed and which will always remain unsullied. In admiration and commiseration always, Kate xx

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 4/11/2010 9:53:44 AM
I´m sorry to say, Sherry, but the reality is that the battle with time goes on and on, regardless of how old we are or where we are. Great poem and thanks for your prayers

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/20/2010 7:06:16 AM
Enjoy now and time won't matter anymore :-)

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/16/2010 5:19:14 PM
It brings Spring quicker as it gets later, later. Early to bed, early to rise makes a poet, naffed off. By the sounds of things. If all clocks were set to GMT, then they'd be no-need for time zones, no jet lag and you'd be asleep now at 01:30. nun nights.

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/15/2010 3:16:19 AM
I did retire, but I still gotta change them darned clocks!

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/15/2010 2:08:56 AM
Very good poem, Sherry

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/14/2010 6:01:28 PM
I'm with you about skipping the time check.

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/14/2010 11:57:00 AM
Classic. We actually forgot and I got very late putting up my poem. My afternoon commute changes dramatically with the time change. In the fall all those lasiked eyes drive into the sun at the Loop, creating a crawl, especially those who can't see after dark racing the sunset home. Love it when you make time to write. Ron

Stolen Time (Poetry) - 3/14/2010 10:36:38 AM
Love it Sheri and as a retiree now I know what you mean but can we skip the time zones too, as the electronic age of cyber communications expands waiting all day to talk to someone from yesterday just confuses me all to hell..lol fee

??? not really a poem??? beg to disagree, Sherry, cos this seems to classify very readily to me! And happily so... the image of the mesa, or tableland, a wide-open space, is very strong and goes well with the perspectives of far-seeing vision and future: an ocean that you might desire to both sink and swim in! :)) I like this muchly: it is non-mushy yet full of yearning emotion and sentiment. Happy Sweetheart Day to you! :)) xx

A Season Passed (Poetry) - 10/5/2009 1:04:46 PM
Bless you, Sherry. I can feel the warmth of your darling mother's departing presence infusing your words with her energy and charm. Yes, the light must have been special, highlighting all the autumn colours in her honour around you today. This so reminds me of my own mother's passing. She literally delivered her "ghost", rather than "gave it up". She was ready. It DOES make it so much easier for those of us left behind - but then, it never is! My prayers are with you as you reflect on her gift of life and love to you and yours... and this is a fabulous and heartfelt tribute to her in return. May your time of your loss be hallowed and bathed in resurrection light. xx

"A mosaic of you and me Sugared memories, colored bright by time" :::> W O W, Sherry! How creative can you get? I feel your grief, but this is beautiful. Can't help but enjoy that aspect. It is a terrible shame that we so often remain tongue-tied where it comes to letting people know how we feel about them. Thank God we have poetry to console us!! Talented and passionate souls like you. Always, 'Pea'

There is a deep sadness within your poem, the emotional grief grasping one as they are left to but reflect upon a love than enveloped ones completeness. Such sadness to be left with this feeling and yet there are so many who live this reality... nice work... Art Sun...

I Never Dared To Say Goodbye (Poetry) - 9/18/2009 5:41:49 PM
this poem speaks directly from the heart, revealing your sensitivity to an experience you alone have endured as well as survived ...it is sad when our deepest feelings are left unanswered ,,, to some people, saying "i love you" is an impossible feat and a tragic lapse of emotive judgment ... extrememly moving and well written, Sherry ...

I Never Dared To Say Goodbye (Poetry) - 9/18/2009 11:44:20 AM
Sherry, Doesn't this say pain! I'm not sure there is anyone that isn't going to relate to this in some manner. We've all had regrets from time to time when we find out a loved one or friend has passed away or just moved away, and we didn't take the time to stop or go over and spend that extra bit of time with them before it was too late. And you're right. To say I love you sometimes is just not what we want to admit although its always been true. You do great work and it continues to grow. Great reading you again. Lisa

Love is very fleeting and very fickle. Or is that just lust and once it is filled to satisfaction, just up and leaves without warning? You have said a lot here that many including me can identify with. This really pulls at the heartstrings and makes the soul very sad. Thank you for sharing. Shards of Yesterday (Poetry) - 8/25/2009 1:55:00 PM
this enlists cries of "me, too!", Sherry! Sometimes, for those of us who are upbeat and seldom ever stop to consider our mortality, that unexpected glimpse in the bathroom mirror can come as a complete bolt out of the blue, even though we "see" ourselves there every day. I love how you set this up, with that image of the workaday, then taking us into "the dreams", the flights of fancy, freedom and fun. This is strongly imaged and the character lives and breathes... I can feel her sigh from here! Lovely work, thank you. xx

It may be a painful write but it is definately one we all feel from time to time as we age. You captured real and true emotions and that is not something to be ashamed of, even for a bright upbeat person such as you Sherry. Well done hugs fee

Interesting and exemplery of most folks who look back on their lives at where they've come from. Life is a process of continual change and sometimes we are amazed by our own gradual makeover. Good write.

I have been asking myself these same questions over and over since I was 12. I have yet to find an answer, especially to the last one. This is a very thought provoking poem sis, that really makes us look deep into ourselves. Thank you for sharing. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie.
