Surrendered (Poetry) - 2/25/2013 9:01:55 AM
Such beautiful poetic words are being missed by so many friends on the den. I feel special to have the honor to make the first comment on your "Musing" poem. On a positive note it's absolutely breathtaking! On a negative not the title, "Musing" does not give this spectacular poem any credit. I have a special message for you Shirley I will write seperately.
Peace, love and blessings,
John Michael

We are the best and God made us.
Languishing (Poetry) - 1/16/2013 12:33:20 PM
I agree with Lonnie...invites reading without stopping. This was a cascading ascent of a poem. I especially liked: "from a fiery hearth of monotony" and the 'unabated' "by the superficiality of appearances kept/" -- what an adroit way to describe what society does on a one-to-one and a one-to-group, and a group-to-group. Excellent, Shirley ~~ Diana

Languishing (Poetry) - 1/3/2013 1:59:27 PM
This is tremendous. It achieves a nice balance of imagery and use of words that allows the reader to continue along in the reading. Your use of words is achieving that balance between allowing the reader to continue to be immersed in the writing without stopping to think about what specific words mean. Good balance. Your writing continues to get better and better in my view.
Good job, great thoughts and feelings displayed here.
You Are The Sun (Poetry) - 12/28/2012 5:59:13 AM

You Are The Sun (Poetry) - 12/26/2012 4:55:08 AM
I read this poem almost as if I was listening to a song: with a sense of music inside and a rhythm in mind. Lovely ideas, connections, imagery. I like the way you compare uncertainty to an "aphotic mist" that evanishes under the Sun.

Enough (Poetry) - 10/11/2012 6:14:02 PM
I am pleased that I am now a reader and not a submitter. That I have found a poet who's works I can enjoy. Though "Enough" is an age old tale of love forlorn it is still new in this rendering.- Robert
Act 1, Scene 2 (Poetry) - 10/11/2012 5:48:59 PM
The birth of a brighter day, set to the music of bird song. No doubt conducted by countless baton's of "The Willow".
9-1-1 (Poetry) - 10/11/2012 5:40:40 PM
Never seen a poem set up like this one Shirley, but by golly I enjoyed it. I think that you just surrendered yourself to his charmes if the truth be known. Oh! the pictures you include send this old codgers 82 year old heart pumping faster than it should.

The Willow (Poetry) - 10/6/2012 1:34:13 PM
A write set out in abstract form. Cleverly done so as not to be pondered over at length to be able to interpret its meaning. A cleverly painted picture in words.
Robert
Truth (Poetry) - 10/6/2012 1:23:53 PM
The use of nature to portray ones own emotions, is a very clever and refreshing way of putting words into a delightful and satifying write. This work is very skilfully done and I congratulate you for it flows beautifully.

Truth (Poetry) - 9/27/2012 1:00:09 PM
You are becoming more and more skilled in adding together visuals, poetic sense and music to your writing. This one has all three.
Truth (Poetry) - 9/27/2012 9:10:53 AM
Brava is the word for this gem, Shirley. Truth. A commodity found lacking so much these day, but clearly within the framework of this refreshing poem it has been found and admired for what it is.
The Willow (Poetry) - 9/23/2012 9:29:10 AM
Pure artistry, so beautiful that it overpowers meaning. My feeble brain cannot see the connect with the opening statement. Perhaps there is some hidden message there that I cannot understand.

Although I like your poem and its message, Shirley, I think it would be more effective if you were to go ahead and release the breaks into simple lines.

You have described me as I was many years ago, Shirley. An immature, selfish person who had no sense of the harm I was doing to lovers. I found myself finally, but not before many doors were closed in my face. You have written this poem with the amazing clarity I see in all of your work.

Forgotten Fragrance (Poetry) - 9/7/2012 2:05:51 PM
The line getting my attention most is: "catching only distorted glimpses of her pain/" and the rapidness of passing cars that leave such an achingly laid-out scene is quite a visual, Shirley. ~~ Diana
Forgotten Fragrance (Poetry) - 9/6/2012 10:29:11 AM

Sad,beautiful, powerful
Forgotten Fragrance (Poetry) - 9/6/2012 4:16:25 AM
Artistically profound, Shirley. To me the crushed petals, and those trampled underfoot, and ignored by the passing cars are symbolic of a human heart who life has not been kind. You are so good. I so wish I had your flare.
Caress (Poetry) - 9/4/2012 3:04:02 PM
Lovely conveyance of the powerful effect of words originating from a certain person. I like that you retain your line form ends. They are signature. Thanks for posting this for us to experience. ~~ Diana

Caress (Poetry) - 8/30/2012 5:03:30 AM
Ah, Shirley, when I see your name in my mail box I smile, because I know I am in for a treat, and today is a special treat, indeed. Written letters are almost a thing of the past. I wrote a few love letters last year to a dear one. They weren't written with quill on parchment paper, but with a No. 2 lead pencil on lined paper, but as I was writing the letters I fell like I was doing something special, and she responded with the same enthusiasm. This poem brings back my feelings as I writer those letters last year. Ah, we're back to emailing again, but the letters stay in the back of my mind.
Dream (Poetry) - 8/24/2012 8:57:44 AM
"then purge me, and we'll be made whole"
Yes indeed, Shirley. Once again a masterpiece. Yours is no ordinary Muse which guides your hands to write such tremendous poetry. Oh no, she is a magnificent Goddess Muse.
Loved, loved that photo. Yesssss!

To Shangri-la (Poetry) - 8/9/2012 2:35:10 PM
I don't go for love poetry, but this caught and held my eye. The work has an almost irresistible flow, and induces the feeling of skimming over the depths of a fast moving river, gazing briefly at the shadows that pass below. It has the feel of spontaneity. In brief, I like the style.
To Shangri-la (Poetry) - 8/9/2012 1:12:55 PM
Loved it Shirley! Wow! Songs of Solomon could not have described a beloved romance much better!

Oh what a beautiful vision Shirley, so beautifully penned as well. A look to self and life itself for one's self. And to be free to reflect on such beautiful and not so beautiful things is such a lovely piece of art. How at the end you have stilled all and consider your legacy...
Just beautiful, so well-written I am thoroughly impressed you are quite talented as a writer and a visionary!

At Water's Edge (Poetry) - 7/19/2012 9:12:01 AM
I received this poem as though I were enjoying a slice of ambrosia the color of the purpliscious photo you included. For me, the clearest tone in the gorgeous windchimes of this poetry is: "in truth I know that I am free/" and that note rings music when placed with the other beautiful tones in this piece of writing. ~~ Diana
At Water's Edge (Poetry) - 7/19/2012 5:51:58 AM
You took us on a soulful and depth-seeking journey as you raised questions which need answering. If the call is sacred as you say, then you have no more to say about it than you do the setting of the afternoon sun today. Your legacy will be proud and true, because it will be you, and will hold that sacred calling to a high water mark. Beautiful poetry, Shirley.

Fluidity (Poetry) - 7/5/2012 6:32:32 AM
Ah, the inevitable "safe harbor" revealed as yet another fraudulent and"arid" (misspelled in your poem) trick to keep us captured. Your poem suggests the power of the 5 senses, the gift of sentient ability, and the call to "allow" freedom to rule our decisions. Purposeful and arresting.
Fluidity (Poetry) - 7/5/2012 4:59:30 AM
I'm immersed in the poem also, Shirley, especially finding that pot of gold at the end of the parched driveway. At least you won't have to travel far for riches untold. Sometimes breaking away from your safe harbors is the right thing to do.

This is a beautiful writing, what you write is felt Shirley and I see it through my eyes. I feel all written here, it is cooling as it moves through me. I am "immersed" in this poem.

A very good poem, Shirley. Many talk the talk, as they say, afraid to walk the walk.
Still, I need you (Poetry) - 7/3/2012 6:52:20 PM
You express so much via your verses here, Shirley; such powerful, evocative words that awaken meaning and emotion. To me, your words are witness that you can easily "stand on your own." Still, it is wonderful to have someone "good and true" by one's side. Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes,
Regis

Wonderful sentiments here and in the end an affirmation that everyone needs someone. Your writing is becoming more and more grounded without losing it ability to soar. Like that.

Ahh yes, I see a soul that is filled with a vision, one who knows the beauty of soul to soul connection. Only mere simple words so eloquently put can describe it as you have.

Shirley,
Jerry has already quoted it correctly. We do need our soulmate above all else we do and will continue to seek them until melded together.

Midnight's Door (Poetry) - 5/29/2012 2:30:13 PM
Shirly, I love your work, this is sensational! You ask ALL the questions here, and make observations only one standing inside their soul, surrounded by the shattered illusions of love, could do.
Love extends far beyond the bounds of time, but it will be time, that takes us to its edges and releases our souls into the essence of life itself. Acceptance of change brings us the answers we need to move on, and to be able to understand the sphere of love as much as we can while on earth.

Exactly, how many of us remain suffocating in the stench, when there is fresh air so easily there to be breathed.
Oh boy, I so relate to this.

My take? - The poet should seek the solution offering the best opportunity for future happiness for themselves and any dependents.

Well done, with deepest emotions expressed in the union of hearts and minds. The intro itself is lovely, and the picture is tactful rather than offensive, yet still illustrates and enhances the poem. I see the beauty of love and commitment in this one.

Wow, in all of this eloquent, albeit unobsequious, vocabulary -- which when I read it, wraps around concepts like a purple feather boa -- you manage to maintain subject/verb agreement, even through all the delicious ribbon windings of your language around the lithe stems of everything tall and short. It is astonishing. ~~ Diana

Some hot, passionate licks here. But I, alas, can no longer hold the quilt in hand. Still, through the ether of binary digits, I color my world with pixelated vibrance that outshines even the sun and stars with my passion as deep and vivid as Van Gogh's.
