A Teaching Handbook for the Non Teacher ... or I must have been mad to think I wanted to teach (Book) - 10/27/2008 7:58:54 AM
I taught in the Chicago Public School Systemfor 17 years. Believe me, my first year (s) were like that too. I used to stand in the parking lot with a co-worker and cry my eyes out. I developed a thicker skin. Still wasn't easy. And yes, there were a LOT of them in each class.

Palo Verde: The Wanted Poster (Book) - 4/12/2006 4:53:56 AM
I’ve been a fan of the Western genre my entire life, and this is definitely one worth reading. The author has penned a very intriguing tale that keeps the reader totally immersed in the story line, and period details are etched superbly. The characters in this book have also been finely tuned, both the good guys, and the bad. I especially liked the main character, Marshal Pappy Watson. This is also the first Western I’ve read in which early forensic science comes into play, which adds a very unique twist to the tale. CSI meets The Old West, and I’m now hoping for a sequel.

The Inspector’s Wife (Book) - 2/20/2006 5:00:21 PM
I read this multi-ploted book from cover to cover. What is they say, "A page turner?"Jumping between plots is a gimmick of mine. Molly, you've stolen my style? Of course I jest. The dated colloquial dialog was different. Though I couldn't figure out the vintage, I found it likable, and I adjusted quickly. Molly claims she writes cozy mysteries then offers you a married Casanova with three children who kill his mistresses when they get pregnant. Then blames them because they got pregnant and thinks he's justified. Like it was their duty to prevent their pregnancy. I don't remember precisely now but, counting the fetuses, I believe the number was more than a dozen. At times you fear for his wife's life. However, you will be pleased when a villain stops to help a motorist fix a tire and gets a knife stuck into his evil throat. Then, I spent several minutes figuring out, in the absence of explicit identification, whodunit. When I talked to Molly about the book she told me I'd guessed right. You read the book. See if you can figure it out. She'll disarrange your mind with all those plot twists. Well, I won't babble anymore. Will the Inspector's Wife escape the lethal hands of the bent copper? You'll have to discover that yourself. I'm sworn to secrecy. Enjoyed the read. (Reposted)

The Cats' Paw: Blue Death (Book) - 3/13/2005 12:11:09 PM
You have quite a way with building suspense in mysteries. Now you're doing the same with westerns, giving credence to my age old adage: Writer's write, and do a heckuva job with all they pursue. Dana

Once you fall in love with teaching - it is a horse that can't be put back in the barn so to speak. Unfortunately, teaching is one of the most difficult arenas to throw your hat into now a days. This is a much needed handbook and I wish you tremendous success with it.

Rene P Moret’s HEALTH SCARE (Article) - 11/2/2010 6:04:31 AM
The medical profession has been faced with many challenges over the course of the past forty years. Most directly attributable to legal suites and legislation that serves the law professional(lawyers) more than the patient or the medical professional(doctor). Dramatic and rapid advances in technologies available to the medical professionals. As well as the onset of MBA's into hospitals and a plethora of other medical venues have presented formidable issues to contend with while also practicing medicine. The federal government's presence through Medicare/Medicaid and the FDA present even more challenges to be dealt with on a daily, patient by patient basis. Hospitals and special services businesses, testing, rehabilitation, etc. etc. have all become profit driven rather than service oriented. Because of the insurance claims processing requirements burdened upon all those groups by the federal government's intervention through Medicare et al and individual insurance providers. The medical profession in every discipline is overwhelmed with undue bureaucracy. We are witnessing once again the staggering costs and support burdens the federal bureaucracy creates on what is a private sector, free enterprise function. If you believe it is untenable now, wait until 2013 when tens of thousands of little bureaucrats become fully involved in the doctor/patient relationship through Health Care Reform. Love and peace to you my dear friend. Jon Michael

I saw my President Weep (Poetry) - 12/29/2012 11:33:09 PM
My son is a teacher and was attacked by a student who said that he gave him a bad grade.........my son tried to explain to the parents who came in to see him ranting and raving that their son was being "picked on" and wouldn't listen to the fact that their son had earned the grade he was given. The next day my son walked into his classroom and luckily is a big guy. This student was hiding behind the door with a chair raised over his head meaning to strike my son. God bless and be with you teachers!!! God bless the children! 'Tis truly sad what happened in Connecticut........truly sad!! Love ya! Jane

I very much liked student 4 because of the happy animals idea. And I also liked number 8 because of the warm freedom on the grass idea. And all the students should be congratulated for making such nice poems with the very stick rules of this type of poetry. Congratulations to all.

Hello everyone. I'm from Japan, but was born in San Francisco, California. And grew up in Pittsburg California. Can you find that little town on the map? It's near Concord and next to the river that goes out to the Golden Gate Bridge. Pittsburg is 40 miles east of San Francisco. I like all those poems. One line I like is 'FLUFFY FARM WILD GOBBLE'. That's very poetic. I also like 'FLUFF PUFF WILD ROAR'. My favorite is student #9 with the line 'LAMB CUTE WARM' because I raised up a baby lamb when I was a boy. I give it milk from a bottle until he became a big sheep. So the words Lamb Cute Warm made me have that memory and made me feel good. But I liked all the poems with the good suject. Keep writing and learning good english, because writing is so fun and important for comunication.

E-e-e-e-e-k surely holds sway in these acrostics. In first grade I believe it took me the entire first half to learn to hold a pencil in my right hand. I was a lefty and my first grade teacher, a family friend would not hear of it. Your remarkably creative students are writing marvelous acrostics. An atmosphere of great trust exists within your class. Bravo, as I know it is the mood set by the teacher. I bid you love and peace M.J. From county Sussex in Delaware. Jon Michael

And, I STILL can't write a poem (Poetry) - 5/19/2009 5:35:47 AM
Poetry by the young is always interesting to read. Quite a helpful tool as a means for them to express whatever their hearts desire or feel. Often times poetry can bring one closer to who they truly are or perhaps want to be. It seems beneficial to all to at least give it a whirl not to mention it can be quite interesting! Blessings, Gwendolyn

And I STILL Remember Daddy (Poetry) - 5/2/2009 4:52:03 AM
When i think of a man close to God, I think of my Grandpa. Now that he is not here I still talk to him knowing he is with our Heavenly Father Jesus Christ. The Lord is also not with us in body but in Spirit. It comforts me to know my Grandpa was a champion for Christ and that he waits for me to join him in Heaven.

good grief! another dog ........... Molly's Poems (Poetry) - 1/15/2009 6:24:58 AM
Such a sad picture of this dog, but with such a happy ending. I don't know how anyone could have abandoned him intentionally, if that was the case, that I could never understand. Glad he's found a loving home. Hugs, Elizabeth

This one made cry, as have been blessed to be around many a Daddy (and grand daddy, Paw Paw in my case who also wanted a boy but had 4 daughters during the depression, WWII and beyond to Elvis), and their daughters of the South, having been born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and its environs. Yep, cornbread and chicken, iced tea and cocola, Just hanging around and sittin' and eatin' watermelon on the front porch with the rest of yunguns. Loved this one, MJ!

And, I STILL can't write a poem (Poetry) - 12/27/2008 8:00:10 PM
M.J. I just love this poem because of its encouraging spirit. I like the way you use repetition to give a sense of keeping at something, and the way it builds to a climax, like a good story until fear has been conquered! The title is ironic because you really are a great poet who has put your own poem into real life. Great job!

I enjoyed reading all of the acrostics and think it is wonderful that you young people are using the creative ability that God has given you! It was a teacher who first made writing exciting for me so many years ago. I live in Norwood New York, which is just south of Massena, in northern NY State. Keep up the GREAT writing all of you!!!

HISS grade 1 HALLOWEEN acrostic (Poetry) - 12/23/2008 5:34:30 AM
From East Texas: There are fascinating magic words for kids at that age. "Slime" is a favorite. There is a kid's site named NeoPets; lots of cool games and one of the prime favorites is "Wheel of Slime" where they win NeoPoints. Also, it is amazing how quickly the kids will pick up and start composing limericks. Nice work here, Molly :-) Ted

I'm no kid by any means, but I sure liked this charming piece. I think it is wonderful to exposure your youngsters to this wonderful genre. There is nothing lovelier on paper than a well-written poem.

I CAN'T Write a Poem (Poetry) - 12/11/2008 8:59:56 AM
I understand. Rhyme is a lot of work and sometimes the fun of poetry runs away when rhyme arrives. Besides, no kidding, poetry is more than just rhyme. Poetry is like a word painting. So much can be "painted" with a few well chosen words. We don't have to write books for everything.

HISS grade 1 HALLOWEEN acrostic (Poetry) - 12/11/2008 8:57:29 AM
Having been a teacher for thirty years, I see the creativity at work in this exercise as these young students activate their vivid and sometimes wild imaginations. :)

Ah, if we could, we could be an adoptive colony for "street hounds." This is a wonderful presentation and something everyone can relate to, the sign of a well written poem. Thank you!

That's good work class, you know some useful words. I hear you love poetry so I'll introduce one of my favourite poets Spike Milligan who loved to write for children. Spike knew poems can be silly because it's sounds that matter (like Hissssssssss) or Nong. Here is one of his poems, read it and if you like it I'd love to see what kind of poem you can make with silly sounds. On the Ning Nang Nong by Spike Milligan On the Ning Nang Nong Where the Cows go Bong! and the monkeys all say BOO! There's a Nong Nang Ning Where the trees go Ping! And the tea pots jibber jabber joo. On the Nong Ning Nang All the mice go Clang And you just can't catch 'em when they do! So its Ning Nang Nong Cows go Bong! Nong Nang Ning Trees go ping Nong Ning Nang The mice go Clang What a noisy place to belong is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!! <a href="http://www.poemhunter.com/spike-milligan/poems/>More poems by Spike </a>
