Sharon, Lord I was losing my best friend, to a life, full of drugs, drink and violence.
She was falling down a dangerous path, and her Mom sat helpless to watch, the Mom who had so depended on her. Now Emma was doing her best to help her best friends Mother, the monster MS, was the culprit, a condition that was so unpredictable not even Emma understood, but that was no reason for Sharon to become so bitter at the world, so drunk.
She had all but told Emma she hated her, those words were harsh coming from Sharon's mouth, but Sharon had changed, she had fallen away from God, and fallen into the dark world of drugs, and gangs.
Everytime the phone rang, Emma feared it was going to be a call saying her best friend had been killed in a drive by.
Sharon had fallen so far, so fast, and Emma was helpless to do anything. She wanted to help her best friend, wanted to reach out to her, but how could she when Sharon was falling away so far and so fast.
Lord I am so afraid that someday soon that call is going to come, and my best friend is going to be dead. Dead at sixteen. I don't know how her Mom will handle that, she shouldn't have to Lord, her Mom needs to focus on keeping up her strength not worrying about her sixteen year old daughter getting killed.
Emma, did her best to encourage Sharon's Mom to help her, but what she needed was Sharon, but Sharon came back, so wasted, so high, that she just fell into the bed tweaking.
