When I met Hillary Clinton

Over a month later I picked up the AR Democrat and learned who that woman was. She was the AR govs wife, Hillary Clinton. The man with her that day was Sam's son Rob Walton. I told them that day that to ply free peoples money, earned in a free market into exploiting Communism's supposed collapse was dangerous to the future and in fact called it treason at that time.

I appreciate your interest. I began working for WMT in 1986 at 19 yrs old and soon made contacts and built relationships with the company's senior executive staff. On one visit to the Bentonville, AR General Office in 1987 I pitched my design ideas for the new "supercenter" concept to the EVP (executive vice president) for company operations at the time and there had the chance to meet Hillary Clinton. Heres how it went. Mind you I was 20 yrs old at the time and mentally and professionally prepared to be there. WMT at the time was very much a family company with very accessible and responsive executives. I actually felt I had bombed in my meeting with the EVP and was leaving the General Office when Sam Walton spotted me and as I had met him on several occasions he recognized me and asked how I was and what I was doing there. I told him of my meeting with his EVP and also that I felt I hadn't done as well conveying my ideas as I had wanted. Sam then took me by the arm and led me to a room just off his office. Not a big room, just a picnic size folding table and about a dozen chairs in it. Sam told me to take a seat which I did. Sam then left and into the room came two people I did not know. They were both in their mid-30's at the time I guessed and neither said anything to me at all. A man and a blond woman. Very soon the woman spoke up asking me who I was and what I was doing there. They had both been with Sam when he escorted me in so I took her to mean why was I at the GO. Not knowing who these two were I felt it couldn't hurt so I began giving them the presentation that I had given the EVP. My idea was a simple one. WMT had a "Buy American" campaign which was more PR than meat and I was concerned that even that could erode so I wanted to establish an American-made dept within the new Supercenter design. I called it "American Showcase". Cementing the companies commitment to American-made in the floor plans of the stores. Midway through my presentation the woman actually rose to her feet, leaned over the table and said "who are you to tell ME how to spend MY money?" "Why should I lose money supporting your high-minded ideas?" I was floored. I had never encountered anyone of such a queenly self-righteousness in my life to that point or since, gladly. Her tone was so full of contempt for ideals supporting livable wages or democratic traditions that I was literally stunned by her. I stumbled out of the GO never having seen Sam again. This is my story. I spent the next 18 yrs trying to influence WMT from within only to conclude two yrs ago I had to try something else. So now you have it. What do you think? Do I have something people need to hear now or is this my imagination? I feel my story is critical at this time if this country is to have an informed debate concerning the most vital economic issues of our day. Thank you and God bless you all, Dave
