When Dreams Change Part One

This one comes from a dream I had last night...

I turned twelve, in the hospital.  A birthday I never dreamed I would spend in the hospital.  Heck after I was born I did not expect to spend any days in the hospital.  Not until I was old, much older, and even then if I was like Nanna I would live a long and healthy life.

But I woke up in the hospital, my last memory had been been flying, but I was in a car.

Mom said someone had ran into the car I was in, and the impact had sent me flying.

For a long time they feared I would die.  I had to be flown to Mercy, because they had a better trauma center, and could better deal with spinal cord injuries.

The impact had damaged my Spinal Cord,  I had learned enough about that in school to know that was what allowed me to walk, but now I was in a chair.  I would probably be in a chair for the rest of my life.

A hard pill to swallow especially for a twelve year old.  I had so many dreams, and hearing that I would never walk again, was like being told a part of me had died, and I guess technically it had.

It did not mean I was dead though. I was blessed Mom said, because my arms still worked.  I would learn to do things on my own.  I would be independent.

Thank you Lord.

I did not expect my family to wait on me hand and foot.  At twelve I was starting to like the taste of the little freedom I was allowed.  Going to the mall hanging out with friends, shopping.

I was a typical twelve year old, but I had Christ in my heart, so wanting to die, killing myself never crossed my mind.

I was only twelve I had my whole life ahead of me. But I was going to make it I was going to survive.

I had my faith, and my family, and the determination that would see me through.

To Be Continued
