  Roger N Taber's Success Story
I feel very privileged to have been able to take part in sculptor Antony Gormley's live arts project on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square. I have no head for heights but did my best! You can see my perfromance on the site's webcam; go to then click on 'Plinters' then go to Week 2 (Tues.)and click on my Roger_T profile.

By 2000, many of my poems had appeared in poetry publications worldwide. However, I am gay, although I do not think of myself as a 'gay poet', rather a poet who also happens to be gay.

No poetry publishers were interested in supporting a major collection that included poetry on a gay theme (among many others). So I self-published 'Love And Human Remains' under my own imprint, Assembly Books, in January 2001. It was very successful (for poetry) in the UK and I continue to sell copies worldwide over the Internet.

I have since published three additional titles in my 'Love And Human Remains' quartet; all have a gay section and comprise at least 150+ poems in total. Moreover, they pay their own way. I have not only recovered initial costs but any 'profit' pays for new print runs and publications.

A supplementary volume to my quartet was published in 2007. 'Accomplices To Illusion' includes 30+ new gay-interest poems alongside some 150 poems on other themes relevant to the 21st century.

I am delighted that feedback suggests that many straight as well as gay readers enjoy the gay sections in my poetry collections. Readers email to say they 'discovered' me on their local library shelves, amazon, Authorsden and my blogs. It is all very encouraging.

Many UK public library networks now stock my poetry collections and they are listed (with good reviews) on under R. N. Taber. I have also been giving poetry readings around the UK (by invitation) since 2003 to mixed gay/ straight audiences. All have been well received and I have met some lovely people.

A new collection - 'On The Battlefields Of Love' - is in preparation for publication in 2010.

My first work of fiction (writing as Roger N. Taber) is 'Blasphemy' a gay-crime novel. No bestseller but sales have been encouraging. It is Book 1 of a planned trilogy (Blasphemy-Sacrilege-Redemption) and I can but hope readers will enjoy Book 2, published in the UK December 2008.

It has taken some 15 years to establish myself as a poet. It remains to be seen how well my fiction will fare. Fingers crossed. - RNT
