Writing is easy, getting published is hard! It took me one year to write my book and it took two years of constant book proposal submitting to finally find a publisher that believed in my work! Rejection letters poured in like the Hoover dam had burst. If not for the support of friends and family, I would have threw up my arms and just said to hell with all of this rejection!
As I truly believed that my book was different from so many others that were out there, I felt that it was just a matter of time before my book proposal letter landed on the right desk of the right publisher.
Every month I would send out ten book proposal letters and keep a list of all those who rejected me. I figured it is pretty much like being in a room full of men with only one woman to dance with. You have to give her a reason to choose you out of all those other guys.
With each read of all my rejection emails, I would make adjustments to my book proposal letter. It may have been luck, persistance or both. But I would like to think that it was believing in my project and never giving up! |
