After years of belonging to Windy City, a chapter of Romance Writer's of America and learning the craft I did what so many have done and are sitll doing. I wanted to give up after years of repeated rejection.
That's one of the good thngs about being a part of a writing group. When you're low someone picks you up and vice versus.
On this particular morning I had received a partial in the mail that I had sent out to genesis press. Since it was heavy I knew it was my returned work so I didn't bother to open it for several hours.
When I finally did it wasn't a rejecton but a request for a full. When the call came that they wanted to buy my book it wasn't, a WE want to buy your book. It was a, do you have somethng else.
Now how would you take that call? They didn't like the book and they wanted something else right? So did I. After several more phone calls, the publisher called me to tell me they wanted to offer me a two book deal and wanted to know what else I had. i couldn't beleive it. She told me everyone in the office loved the book.
That wasn't good enough for me. I asked her to email me that. She emailed me but it wasn't with all of the flowery words of praise so I called back and asked her to email me all of the flowery words and praise. Crazy right? LOL. Listen after all the years of rejections I wanted to be able to read this in case I'd gotten it wrong. Luckily instead of calling me a nut she humored me and resent the email which I will always keep in a frame on my desk. |
