  Beverly Mahone's Success Story
I was recently named "Member of the Week" by the National Association of Women Writers.

Here is the interview:

HQ: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
A: I've always loved to write ever since I was in elementary school. I would write short stories and poetry and share them with my friends. I continued to do that over the years. I studied journalism in college and utilized what I learned in various radio and television newsrooms. But it wasn't creative writing so I started keeping a journal and discovered, with the help of friends, that I had a message to be shared with others.

Q: How and when did you make this dream a reality?
A: Actually, I started keeping a journal about some of the unusual physical and emotional changes I was experiencing about two years ago. I learned I as in the early stages of menopause. From there I kept writing and shared it with a few colleagues. They loved my writing and suggested I write a book. In May of this year, I published my first non-fiction book: WHATEVER! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age.

Q: What's the most important lesson you've learned so far in your writing career?
A: I didn't have to write two or three hundred pages to complete a book and make it interesting.

Q: What are you working on right now?
A: I'm working on MARKETING and PROMOTION because that's the key to a successful book. Although my background in the media gives me some advantages, there are still a lot of doors I'm trying to open (with the added help of a publicist) to get my name and book out there.

Q: Name some authors or books that have influenced your writing life in a positive way.
A: Erma Bombeck, Cathy Lechner, Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni. These women write from the heart and provide inspiration to their readers. I actually read You've Got to Be Kidding, I Thought This Was the Great Tribulation! by Lechner a couple of times. She had me laughing and crying at the same time!

Q: What have you recently read or what are you reading right now that you would consider an outstanding work?
A: Ask and It Is Given by Jeremy and Esther Hicks. I consider myself an inspirational writer and I'm drawn to authors and books of that nature.

Q: What excites or ignites your soul?
A: God!
