  Alberta H. Sequeira's Success Story
When my father came down with cancer, I started to realize that I didnít know him, not only as a father, but as a person. There always seemed to be a gap between us. My father was a very quiet man who didnít talk much; at least I thought that all my life. In wasnít until the middle of my writing that I realized, I was a very big part of causing that gap.
I took two weeks off from work to spend with my parents when Dadís health was really failing. My father was an only child and his mother died of leukemia when he was two-years old. His grandmother brought him and she passed away when he was seventeen.
My father always searched for relatives to learn about his own life. He died never finding information about his past.
Before he died, he told me how he hated the fact of not being able to leave his family his anything about his background.
When he passed away, I decided to write as much as I knew about him to leave to my children, grandchildren, and hopefully, future generations. I didnít take the time when he was alive to ask important questions to put the puzzle together.
I knew he was a commanding officer for the 26th Yankee Division during WWII and he retired as a Brigadier General. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Lorraine, and Metz and he had received a Bronze Medal. We were blessed that he not only returned home, but he was unharmed. He was just my father and these important events never entered my mind growing up.
During his last week, I had a very spiritual renewal in my faith. It was a painful time and yet comforting. I had left the church for about fifteen years but as each day came and passed taking care of my father, I felt God all around me. I learned and said the rosary with my family by his bedside. I had to finally face the fact that death was a reality and no one was going to be able to avoid it.
This is when I started to write little by little jotting down things that I could remember. I never planned to write a book. I thought maybe a company could print out a few books for the family, but as time went on, I felt I had a story to share with readers. If I was experiencing all these emotions, then maybe others felt the same after losing not only a parent but a loved one. I wondered how many others let opportunities go by without knowing them.
So, A Healing Heart was written. Itís a very powerful story that follows my inner thoughts and emotions when I learned my father was dying of cancer. I tried to demonstrate the lessons on how we are caught up in a modern society of materialism and we have pushed God aside, not only in our own lives, and our families but especially our children.
Because of my spiritual renewal, I traveled to Medjugorje in Bosnia to witness visionaries having apparitions with the Blessed Mother. Itís there that I discover the true power of unconditional love and faith in God. In just a weeks time, I come home a changed person.
It took a few years but with faith and prayer my husband, Al, turns around himself and comes back to church with me.
There is so much to this book people of all faiths can identify with and find important to their own lives. I hope after the book is read that people will turn back to their faith, prayer and most importantly, to God.
