There were two ways Peter could address a suffering people, with hype or with hope. Hype gets people excited and distracted for a short period of time and gets politicians elected. Hope, however gives people the courage to face life or death because of a resurrected Christ.
If after preaching the Word of God or listening to the Word of God people do not have a strong vision (as in 1st Peter 1:3-5), then they are no better off than had they been addressed from a Sears' catalog. Peter was giving them the Word of God..........

A Vision That Gives Us Hope
In his second book, World 1 & World 2 –A study of 1st Peter, Ernie Heavin seeks to provide an approach for making
sense of the world in which ordinary human beings live. This
world has many obstacles and events that make it difficult to
understand or even to live. It often renders the individual
blind to other realities. Heavin seeks to give sight by bringing
to light a reality that often escapes many people’s vision; it
is the reality of God’s grace, mercy, and hope. The author
uses readings from the Biblical text, contemporary sources,
personal stories, and pithy statements to convey the reality
of God’s presence. Some of these stories move the reader
into deeper reflection and others make one chuckle when one
considers the absurdity of thinking that heaven is nothing
more than a long church service. Like his daughter Krissy, I
too would rather stay out. Thanks to Heavin we are given a
different and renewed vision in that we are able to recognize
that God was not overcome with the Fall, but that this world
does contain much that is beautiful, good, and loving. At the
same time, we are reminded there is more to this life than
what we see; there is a vision that gives us hope; a vision
that makes us desire to become better people; a vision that
sees God in all of God’s splendor and beauty.

A Guideline To Understand How To View And Live Today
World 1 & World 2, a Study of 1st Peter, by Ernie Heavin, is an excellent study for our churches today, and should be used as a home study for family devotions as well. Ernie's simplicity and historical facts brings 1st Peter alive. The book's teaching is a wonderful guideline to understanding how the believer should view and live today. Ernie intertwines the scriptures throughout this book to make sure we understand the battles we encounter daily. Churches would benefit from these sometimes humorous accounts to the deep study and truths of World 1 and World 2. This would be a great guideline for parents to share with their families before they become "empty nesters." Thank you, Ernie, for your reminder of who we are in Christ and the freedom, joy, and hope that all believers can experience.
