In the book of the Psalms: you can learn plenty. The 23rd says this: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Going with that, a good many people, they know that psalm by heart. They probably, repeat it several times daily. Yet, it doesn’t work to fulfill their needs. For most of them it just doesn’t work. They are still in wants. Why is that? It is simply this: the Lord is not their shepherd. In order for the Lord to become any one’s source or, one’s shepherd one must meet certain condition.
One has to decide on pleasing the Lord. There are many guiding principles that has been attached. Initially, His laws and His commandments must be upheld. Unless we are prepared to become His humble sons and daughters – He won’t be our shepherd. And so, we’ll forever live in wants. My friends, that’s not good! The Lord really wants to help us, but we have to live up to the standards that He sets. Our righteousness must be of high quality. Our hands have to be very clean; besides, our hearts have to be all right too.
We have to let go of envy and pride. We have to let go of hatefulness – and ungratefulness. All those, along with every other evil deed; we shall have to get rid of, before God will take over as our shepherd. You go now, and try to be rid of those evil sins. Or else, you could be just wasting your time, by repeating those words of the psalm. Then again, if it brings you comfort feel free, to get on with it. For at the end of the day – it’s really going to be your God and you.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadth me beside the still waters.” Those are the sorts of benefits, which we could receive by fearing God. Neither food and water nor raiment, would ever be our problem. In peace and in quietness the Lord would take care of our many needs. Numerous blessings can be derived from pleasing God. Listen to this: He restoreth my soul: He leadth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”
He promises peace and relief for the soul. He has a name to defend. He won’t see you get drowned into quicksand; or, so to speak. Why? It’s because, He will lead you into plain paths for His name’s sake. He’s really saying – I’ll stand on my words – what I promise is what I’ve promised. The Lord has sworn by His words, and so, He won’t fail to obey them. “Yea, though, I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.”
Knowing that the Lord is with us – is good enough to enhance our spirit. He will move all fears from our lives. Having, the Lord with us: He sets our soul free to worship Him. That, we can do as regular as possible or at any given time. We won’t have any need to fear anyone, while we worship Him. Since as, His rod and His staff will be our protection. Yet, for us to receive any such security, He has to be your shepherd. Again, for Him to be your guide, you have to love Him with all your heart, soul and mind.
Once you have got that established. God will even, prepare a table for you right in front of all your enemies. Then you’ll eat and drink at peace – the food provided by the Lord. Your skull won’t ever get flaky; as, He will anoint it with oil. Not exactly, by His own hands, you’ll be anointed, but He’ll enable you to afford the oil; just as He had helped you to afford your food and drink. Furthermore, He says this: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life: and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” There is a place for you in the Lord’s house, when you’ve done well.
In that, He’s saying this: You won’t be dead, and be buried just like the ungodly. Your spirit shall be alive with God. Remember, “God is not a God of the dead, but of the living. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Despite they have all been dead; yet, they are alive in the Lord. How about that for compensation? If we live and fear God that’s the way we will be blessed too. Well, it has just brought me back to my old saying. “Closeness to God brings out the blessings of God.”
