When Baby the blue-eyed tri-colored American Paint is brought to her new home at Grandma Kinner's farm by her new owners, Mom and Dad, she recognizes horses and goats she had known at the rescue barn where she had been boarded
along with her real mom. As she adjusts to
her new life without her real mom, she becomes good friends with the horses and
goats that were adopted by her owners for
their granddaughters (grandgirls), of whom
Baby is very fond. When she overhears the
horses talking about something she doesn't
understand, it frieghtens her, and she
squeezes out the gate in search of the
grandgirls to see if they can help her. After
getting distracted, she gets lost. She is
found by the grandgirls and is brought back
safely to the barn. Soon the other horses
explain to her that she had nothing to fear.
Excerpt
My name is Baby. I used to live on the farm where I was born. Then the very nice lady who used to own me moved me from that barn to a new barn. She boarded me there, along with my horse mom. She paid people money for our board so we could stay there, and people who worked there, and some were volunteers, would take very good care of me and my horse mom. This is where I met Mom and Dad. They say they fell in love with me the first minute they saw me walking with my horse mom. Whenever the volunteers who took care of us would take mom and I out of the stall, they were amazed how I would just follow my mom wherever they took her. They say everyone fell in love with me because I was so cute and beautiful.
