Brian Edwards had found out the hard way, that evil has a way of seeping into your conscious and taking hold. After losing his mother tragically, he had completely blocked out his past and when his father showed up out of the blue, after abandoning him for many years, it had opened up a gate to unimaginable terror that took him beyond the realm of sanity.
The sheets were on the floor and the curtains were still drawn. He did not notice that when he came for his clothes two days ago. He really just ran in and ran out.
Mike opened the closet door, and looked at the clothes hanging there, a pain shot into his chest and he took a deep breath to compose himself. The dress was the first one he saw. He reached for it and laid it on the bed. “Do I get her shoes?” he thought. He wasn’t sure but reached for a dainty pair of flat sandals that she wore with the dress. He went to the dresser and pulled out her necklace with the diamond cross on it, and held it up. “I should give this to Brian when he’s older,” he thought. He decided against the jewelry. He sat on the edge of the bed and began to cry. His heart was aching, and he really wished he’d wake up from this nightmare. Just as he was about to get up he heard a voice from the hallway.
“Mike, Mike, come here.” it was almost in a whisper, but with a reverb around it.
“Hello?” he got up and walked into the hallway.
“Mike!” the voice called from downstairs. It was a woman’s voice but he couldn’t make it out. “Maggie, is that you?” he was in the hallway but heard no one.
He made his way slowly down the stairs and went into the living room. The kitchen door was open, the tape was not in front of it and Mike felt a slight pang of fear creep up his spine. “Maggie?” he called out again.
“Mike,” the voice was coming from the kitchen and now it sounded like Elise.
“Elise? Is that you?” knowing deep down it could not be her but his emotionally abused mind would not accept that it could not be. He ran into the kitchen and turned on the light. “Elise?”
She was there in the kitchen, hanging from the rope that ended her life. Mike fell back against the wall, looking up at his wife’s body, unable to reason that it was an impossibility. Her eyes were pulped out and her face was beet red, her lips drooled out spittle that rolled down her chin and was dripping on the floor, every drop making a plop sound as it pooled, Mike gasped and slid down along the wall till he was on the floor, still staring at her body. He had his hand fisted up over his mouth biting down on it. He could not grasp the situation and could only sob, calling out her name over and over. He stared at the ghastly vision that was in front of him frozen in time.
Elise’s eyes slowly opened and looked at him. He screamed a bloodcurdling scream and got up; running from the house.
