My story is titled "Midsummer Shower":
A young couple takes shelter from a storm in an abandoned cabin. It sounds cozy, and it's anything but.
Excerpt
Lightning robbed the girl’s face of what little color it normally held, save for the birthmark resembling a crudely drawn heart that seemed to pulsate on the alabaster landscape of her cheek, almost in tempo with the undulating sheets of rain beating against the cabin’s roof. The geriatric structure shuddered and groaned in protest to each gust of wind that tried to force the storm through the cracks in the walls. The girl shivered on the edge of a derelict chair, her sodden dress revealing the slightness of her frame, and her long red hair hanging in dripping tendrils.
When thunder joined the wind and rain in their ominous symphony, the girl lifted her head and fixed mosaic eyes of green and brown on the room’s other occupant. The colored whorls in her eyes seemed to churn when she looked at the young man who was lying on the stained mattress beside her chair, their motion suggesting a restlessness in her soul.
