Then sometimes he was escorted to his office where he would change his clothing. Or Old Preacher just might sit, until time to offer the benediction. Then he would greet the Lord's people.
However, before doing any of those things, young Elijah knew something was wrong, with Old Preacher. And in his suit, Elijah knelt beside his father.
He could smell the familiar, light, non-offensive perspiration mingled with Old Preacher's cologne. On his knees, young Elijah wanted to believe his father probably just felt a bit winded. It was why he lovingly asked, "How many times I gotta tell you Dad? You have to stop preaching so hard."
Placing an arm around the man he had ever looked up to, the one who had recently been diagnosed with a heart condition, Elijah was about to ask if Old Preacher was okay.
