“Defeating Darkness” takes over where my first book, “Comfort From The Storm,” stopped. Whereas, the first book was meant to calm the fears and anxieties of those in turmoil, this book goes on to explain, that once you have assurance, you must hail a call to action. By being a Christian, one must accept his responsibility to help defeat the darkness. A Christian’s role in defeating the darkness is determined by God’s unique mission for him and can only be discovered by that person.
This book has 54 poems: one introductory one, one final one, and 52 accompanying devotionals, one for each week in the year. The poems and devotionals explore Biblical verses for assistance in lighting our paths to peace.
I consider this book, like the one before, to be part of my mission and my gift to those searching for an answer—a gift God has given me.
Only the electronic version is available now. The print version comes out this summer through Publish America.

Ecclesiastes 3:12
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken
John Donne once said, “No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." We were not made to be apart from others, to not care about the livelihood of people. We were made with God’s bright light, his Spirit, within our hearts. It is our job, our primary responsibility to help fight for what is right.
Some may have to fight in the military, even causing bloodshed, to assure our freedom and the freedom the Spirit brings to us all. It is written, “Thou shalt not kill,” yet at times it may be necessary so that mankind can live. 2 Peter 2:19 tells us, “They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity–for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.” They are who live in darkness and do not embrace the light, for 2 Corinthians 3;17 says, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” It is our moral obligation and our salvation to see that his light shines brightly.
“But I can’t fight in the military,” you say. “I’m too young, too old, too frail, handicapped.” Fine. Do it another way. You can’t afford to sit back and look at the state of the world today and say, “That’s terrible, but I can’t do anything about it.” The fact is if you don’t help, not only will others die, but the darkness will increase. That means support for those who fight, whether it be monetarily, through volunteer efforts, or through your own crusade to walk by the Spirit.
Join with others. Don’t sit back by yourself. Don’t let the bell toll for mankind.
Dear Lord,
Help me to fight for the light, to help those who defend our freedom from those who are slaves of depravity. Help me to give of myself to others and join hands to make a strong cord that can’t be broken.
Amen
