Novel tells of 2 Battles
Erik Stevens of Jackson has a background in video production. He compares his novel, "Silver Cord: Cimmerian Dawn to a video story board. The narrative cuts back and forth between two very different worlds--the lives of a modern American family and a battle in the void between heaven and hell. Not a symbolic battle, either. A literal one. Protagonist Kent McVay is a busy family man until a car crash puts him in a coma. His spirit is commanded by God to do battle with demonic forces led by an evil fallen angel. Meanwhile, his wife battles doubts and depression until the faith of their small daughter leads her to God, too. Stevens has a strong interest in military weaponry, stategy and tactics, which add to his vivid depictions of warfare. But "the theme of the novel is that there is nothing stronger than faith and love," Stevens said.
