Sometimes we, as middle-aged women, find ourselves in situations where we just don’t want to deal with the reality of a particular situation, so we conceal it with our own distorted viewpoint.

The idea of growing older in a society where youth and beauty are depicted as a thing to behold can also resort in a cover-up. That might explain why women over 40 account for nearly half of all cosmetic surgery routines in the United States. Some go to great lengths to conceal what they believe are physical flaws because, as an over zealous media always reminds us, image is everything.

Then you have some women who fear what telling the truth would do to their long-standing marriages, friendships, and other relationships. Can you imagine what 62 year old actress Meredith Baxter went through all those years before she finally revealed publicly that she was a lesbian? The married-three-times, mother of five was quoted as saying she held on to the secret for several years before finally coming forward with the truth.
