Published in 2000 and now out of print, this book accompanied a Summer reading tour of nursing homes and a copy was given at each location, so that the residents might enjoy the poetry long after I had left. There are a couple of copies in libraries in both England and the USA.
The poem below was included in the book and is titled
I Do Not Remember My Mother Looking That Young

I was looking for something else
in a newspaper from long ago.
I found it, on page 42, in the obituaries -
but was surprised to see,
on the front page,
a familiar face staring out at me.
There,
smiling,
from more than a quarter of a century before,
sat my mother.
With her,
the homeless man and his two children,
to whom she had offered shelter.
As I looked at the photo
tears misted my eyes.
I do not remember my mother
looking that young.
