I wrote this book because I felt a need to express my feelings and opinions of how I dealt with cancer, and my gratitude for how I was blessed enough to be a two time survivor.
Introduction
The reason that I wrote this book was to try to help people understand some of the ways that I have dealt with cancer and the fears that come with it. I wish that there was a cure and no one had to go through the fears and anguish of trying to cope with this disease, but for the time being we will just have to learn to deal with it and have faith that it can be beaten. In reading this book, I hope it will help you to understand some of the feelings that come with the dreaded disease and that my way of coping might help someone else to cope also. If you expect to read a lot of fancy medical terms, then this isn’t the book for you. If you are looking for some plain and simple words about fears, coping, and faith; this will be of interest to you. The way I handled the disease, and the information I give might be of use to other people, but then again, they might cope in an entirely different way. I have learned a lot in the past several years, and I hope that some of the things that I have learned will help you in some way. Again, I really wish that there would be no need for anyone to have to go through the ordeal of facing cancer, but until there is a cure found, we all have to try to help each other in any way we can. Timing is of the essence; the sooner it is found the better the chance for a cure. So get regular check ups. Don’t let fear of the word scare you and keep you from getting help.
If you have any doubt at all, or even if you do not, ALWAYS get a second opinion, even if you have complete faith in your doctor. A good doctor will not have a problem with that. Make sure you give your input, and let your doctor know your feelings about treatment and your options. The more they know about you, the better they are able to treat you. If you have to, demand to be listened to because sometimes, although most doctors will not admit it, you know your body and how it functions better than they.
