A curious foal goes on an adventure and encounters many woodland animals along the way. But when she becomes lost, what will she do?
Shadow: The Curious Morgan Horse introduces the characters of the award-winning Morgan Horse series to younger readers. Shadow is a young horse who is curious about everything. One day the farm's rooster tells her about a magic pond in the woods and Shadow wants to go find it. When a tree falls during a storm and knocks the fence down, Shadow takes the chance to go explore the woods. She searches for the pond and along the way meets many different forest animals, but when Shadow realizes she has become lost, how will she find her way home?
Shadow slowly made her way through the thick underbrush. There were fallen branches, rocks, and overgrown bushes
everywhere. It made traveling very hard. After what seemed like a long time, Shadow stumbled back onto a path. Was it the one she was on before? She didn’t know. Was she lost?
Seeing a small black animal with a big
white stripe down its back, Shadow
asked the creature, “Do you know
how to get to the magic pond?”
“Magic pond? Magic pond? I’ve never heard of a magic pond,” grumbled the little animal. “And I don’t like being bothered!” he complained as he lifted his tail and squirted an obnoxious smelling liquid towards Shadow.
“Ew! Ew! Ew!” shouted the surprised horse. “That smells terrible,” she moaned as she raised her head towards the sky and curled her lip. “Gross! Gross! Gross!”
“Don’t you know you should never bother a skunk?” asked the fluffy skunk as he waddled off.
