San Antonio, River Walk, the Alamo, Hill Country and murders so diabolical only a mastermind could pull them off. Single, professional females are being murdered in every area of the city, each with a different method. The lead detective, Lt. Sam Kabala is implicated as a suspect when two of his former lovers are victims. Dr. Morgan DeLaney, the new Chief Medical Examiner, has her hands full with a serial killer on the loose and the press suggesting a cover up and tampering of evidence. Things couldn't get any worse until...she becomes the next target of the mastermind serial killer.
MASTERMIND Forensic Pathologist and former homicide detective, DELANEY DeLaney, has been recently appointed Chief Medical Examiner despite the fact that she is relatively a newcomer to the field. The past year had been exceptionally difficult. She faced several challenges, one of which was a staff doctor, Margaret Vessy, who was passed over for the position of Chief in favor of DELANEY. However, DELANEY has been determined to work things out, but to make matters worse, the police believe a serial killer is working in the area. The killer is targeting single professional females. He is very intelligent, a mastermind, and kills each victim in a different manner effectively eluding the police. The victims are shot, strangled, poisoned, stabbed and suffocated. A break in the case comes when Dr. Vessy recovers hair in the hands of two of the victims at autopsy, revealing that the killings are connected. DNA evidence from the hair and information from the psychological profiler determine the killer is a white male, 40 to 50 years old and is likely in a dysfunctional relationship. When it is discovered that the lead detective on the case, Lieutenant Detective KABALA Kabala, is connected to at least one victim, he is taken off the case but joins forces with DELANEY to follow new leads. Together they uncover two suspects, neither of which is male. A subtle romantic attraction develops between Detective KABALA and DELANEY, even though she has sworn off dating cops. The evidence they uncover could point to either of the two suspects, neither of which is male. Then, DELANEY, who is a single professional female, finds herself a target when the dismembered head of one of the victims is found in her backyard. Detective KABALA believes the killer is the woman he broke up with recently. DELANEY believes the killer is Dr. Vessy.
