An anthology of works from currently serving and retired military personnel, their spouses, family members, and friends.
This anthology takes on the stress, the strain, the joys, and the discipline that military life means to those on active duty and those who love someone in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard. Uplifting, comforting words from those who have lived the life on the battle fronts, on the home fronts, or moving from base to base.
Excerpt
The twenty first graders sat in a circle, some of them twitching, some of them whispering, almost all of them bored. Sonny, the class clown, reached over and pulled dress sashes, smiling broadly at the girls’ dismay of the dress coming untied. Ignoring the antics, Mrs. West patiently explained, again, how the hour hand and the minute hand work on a clock.
She put the hour hand on the one and the minute hand on the twelve.
Then she called on me.
“Gladdy, what time does the clock say?”
The answer was so obvious it had to be a joke. Even Sonny could answer that one.
“It’s thirteen-hundred hours, ma’am.”
(This is about a quarter of the story. . .)
