There is a cast of eleven characters .
The play begins in the parlour of the Catholic Presbytery with Fr Andrewe swinging a golf club and a ringing telephone .

As Fr Andrew is ready to head off to the golf course, Tom the gardener arrives .
Fr. Andrew in a moment of inspiration , makes up an excuse for having to be away for the day and asks Tom to take his place until he gets back .

Tom dresses up as a cleric and then is thrown into all kinds of situations that even the Bishop himself would have had trouble dealing with .

Excerpt

An old man bursts into through the front door with a push bike in front of him .

"My name is Owen Burke and I've been a member of the parish community in Drumshambo all my life . This is my very first bike and I want it blessed by a priest right away . So if Father would do me the kind service please , and I'll be on my way. "

A knock to the front door ,
He grabs by the scruff of the neck two little brats .
Tom- "Playing thunder and lightening are we ?
The boys -"No Father .
We want you to hear our very first confession . Reverend Father if you would "

The bishop -"We haven't yet had the privilage to meet "
Tom- "Oh come in your Lordship "
