Steamy romance as love returns to the fabled "streets of Laredo."
When the scandalous novel Shades makes a literary splash, reporter Julie Barnes is assigned to cover the story--a story she knows intimately, because unknown to the world, she is the novel's author. Unlike the sexy and promiscuous heroine in her novel, however, Julie is cool and controlled--determined not to suffer from unbridled ambition, as her mother once did.
Then Joaquin Gonzalez comes to town to play the lead in the film version of Shades. The international singing star and composer has legions of women at his feet. But the man millions swoon for only wants one woman--Julie Barnes.
Change, risk, and the inevitability of real love are detailed against the backdrop of a rich and unique border culture, and love and romance heat up the always sizzling "streets of Laredo."
Excerpt
"Good. Pizza's the best," Ana enthused, plucking her huge bag from where she'd thrown it on the way in. "You know," she added cheerfully, ""Sometimes I think pizza's better than sex!"
"Oh, I don't know," Elvira said calmly, catching Joaquin's arm with one hand and looping her other arm through Julie's "What do you think?"
Joaquin grinned down at Elvira, but not before looking consideringly at Julie--something she knew her friends hadn't missed. "I guess it depends," he said. "On the pizza. And the sex." He paused a moment, his dimples deepening. "And I think that in this company--the pizza would have to be very, very good!"
