Life-changing inspirational book detailing the roller coaster ride of a family in their child's first unsuccessful transplant. Told from the one-year-old patient's viewpoint, you will laugh, cry and wonder if the transplant was really unsuccessful.
Just shy of his first birthday, Loren McClelland was diagnosed with Hurler Syndrome. Left untreated, Hurler Syndrome is terminal and the patient has a life expectancy of 5-10 years.
Written as if the story is told by Loren, Cookin' At Cook chronicles the McClelland Family's roller coaster ride through the process of the first of two transplants. The liberal use of humor throughout keeps the reader focused on the real life struggles of the family through a youngster's eyes and conveys the sense of frustration and ultimately hope the experince brings to the family.
The first of three books, Cookin' At Cook uses biblical passages along with quotes from"Loren" to literally change the reader's view of life.

This is a memoir of a baby who received his first round of bone marrow transplant as “told” to her his father author Jim McClelland. Overall, it is a touching memoir filled with laughs, humors and toddler-ly giggles. For parents whose children are going through terminal illnesses, it is a gem not to be missed.
I enjoyed this book very much except for the more-than-occasional toddler “language” that made me think twice for the meaning. Author Jim McClelland originally published his own journal about Loren’s medical memoir online, so those who have visited his angelic Web site may have read the materials.
At first glance, I thought the boy in the story was already dead by the time the book was published, but apparently he is much alive. The answer to “was this transplant successful?” was pretty hard to guess as the ending was pretty vague due to a closing “a second book is coming.”
Despite the vague ending, this book is a rare gem written creatively to educate, entertain and –above all—to celebrate the life of a brave tiny hero whose love for life inspires his parents and loved ones. Well done.[]

| I think the ability to extend life's gifts is a wonderful but scary gift. I do believe I might have even seen some women who underwent this journey. They looked scared. Probably was scary. But...sorta fun and look what is the reward!!!! WOW!!! |
