Forced into hiding by the self-proclaimed ruler of Qora, Emperor Osiro, the Gantune tribe lives beneath the desert sands waiting for salvation. There only hope is Princess Kalkuro Azura.
Like her mother before her, Kalkuro is a talisman ~ a human sacrifice. Her blood holds the power to link the minds of Gantunes and eagles, forming a telepathic bond that must never be broken. When the princess is suddenly kidnapped mere days before her Farewell Ceremony, she must choose to stay or flee. There is something strange about her captor. His silver eyes give away the fact that he is a Kantar - one of the enemy, but he begs her to translate writings in a hidden cave, revealing the long forgotten history of a powerful jewel…The Legend of Sophia.

“So you believe?”
I nod, feeling as though a weight has been lifted.
I do believe.
My hands are painted on those walls. Even before I was born, my ancestors knew I was coming to claim my destiny.
“The Heart of Sophia is a very special treasure. Would you be willing, since you are the goddess…would you be willing to assist me?” His voice cracks on the last word. This must be incredibly awkward for him, begging a Gantune for help.
“How do you know the jewel even exists?”
“I don’t.”
“Then why?”
“I need to find it. I know I need to find it.” Takk lowers his head. He realizes he sounds desperate. He swallows his pride and clears his throat. “Sometimes I feel as though the jewel is calling me. I have to find it. If you help me, nothing will happen to you. You can trust me. I will keep you safe.”

Fantastic Debut!
On the world of Qora, war between the tribes of Gantune and Kantar has left devastation, particularly for the Gantunes, who have been forced to live in caves beneath the hot desert sands and far from their blood brothers, the eagles. Into this world a young girl, Kalkuro, is preparing to make the ultimate sacrifice for her people when she is suddenly captured by the discontent young Prince Takk of the Kantars. He needs Kalkuro's help to decipher an ancient inscription that speaks of a hidden jewel, the Heart of Sophia, that holds the power to open a portal between worlds, if they can only find it and keep it safe from an unspeakable evil that seeks its power for itself. Thus begins Faye T. Knight's engrossing treasure hunt, filled with mystery and danger, and the power of love. Weaving together tales of forgotten Egyptian gods and goddesses with a fantastical landscape, The Daughters of Qora will keep you enthralled and linger in your imagination. Looking forward to a possible sequel! (B&N.com)
