PROLOGUE
Imprisoned inside a compound deep inside the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Abasi and Zarianna lost hope. Continually drugged by their captors, they were unable to stop the weekly blood and tissue samplings. In an effort to save Zarianna, Abasi devised a plan. He persuaded her to cooperate and pretend to submit to their captives, the Top Dwellers. The Top Dwellers told them that their cooperation would be rewarded with an outdoor haven, a floral garden—planted specifically for them, and a walking trail.
Abasi’s great love for Zarianna overruled the integrity of his being. Zarianna needed fresh air … at any cost. Thinking of her only, he made an agreement he had no intention of keeping. Abasi promised they would not try to escape. The Top Dwellers constructed an outdoor haven for them, a beautiful floral garden and walking trail.
It was in that garden where Abasi taught Zarianna how to remove sedatives from her body, making her alert enough to run. It was in that same garden, Abasi took Zarianna as his wife, and then sacrificed all he had to free her.
