Excerpt
You’ve probably heard of Amelia Earhart and Isak Dinesen, but I’m willing to bet most of you have never learned anything about the lives of phenomenal female explorers like Gertrude Bell, Harriet Chalmers Adams, Ruth Harkness, Isabella Bird Bishop, or Louise Arner Boyd. When the youth of today are asked to name explorers, they commonly mention Magellan, Columbus, Erik the Red, or Lewis & Clark. Nobody ever names Gudridur.

An Eye-Opening Read!
Sad to say, before I read Female Explorers by Deborah Watson-Novacek, I was completely in the dark regarding... well, any female explorers. Female Explorers not only profiles these brave souls and their contributions to the world, but also put those contributions into context. Watson-Novacek's approach was informal but comprehensive, and she presented her subjects in a way that was quite accessible.
It is also to the author's credit that she was able to infuse the book with her own personality, and not only presented profiles of the explorers, but also WHY these explorers mattered; not just to the world, but to her specifically.
Even though this book is currently priced at .99, it weighed in at over sixty pages, and is an OUTSTANDING value!!! I devoured it in a day, and can't wait to read her next offering. Definitely a MUST READ!
