Respect and Enjoy God's Creation
Reviewed by Kristie I. for Readers Favorite
"Respect and Enjoy God's Creation," written by Malinda Mitchell with photographs by Ray Ruppert, is a collection of pictures and words to remind the readers of the uniqueness, beauty and wonder of God's creation. Beginning with a few pages about nature in general, there is a reminder about not littering and tips for enjoying nature and the beauty of it. Following this are pages focusing on farm animals, cats and dogs, wild animals, birds, ocean life, insects and spiders, produce, and trees. Photographs and facts are shared for each category. Then the book concludes with a few paragraphs about enjoying the nighttime, taking time to appreciate the breeze, and loving God's creation in general.
This is a beautiful book as the photographs are absolutely beautiful and what Mitchell has written are great reminders for taking the time to appreciate God's creation. The facts that are shared are fascinating as they include the facts about spiders and hummingbirds. I have enjoyed looking through this with my children and they like to look for the animals outside now. This would be a great book to share before taking a nature hike or going camping or even if you want to encourage them to appreciate and enjoy the outdoors more. Though this book is a great overview of all of the categories that are included in the book (ocean life, animals, birds, etc.), only a page or two have been devoted to each category while each could have its own book. I would love to see a whole series created based upon this book with a book devoted to each category. That is just a wish!

Mitchell, Malinda. Respect and Enjoy God’s Creation (published in 2012 by Tex Ware Publishing, Everett, WA). What is your favorite part of God’s creation? Is it animal, vegetable, or mineral? Author Malinda Mitchell, grandmother of eight who has been writing fiction for over forty years, says in the Foreword, “I am the mother of five children whom I taught to fear God and give Him glory for all of His creation. We should enjoy God’s creation, yet at the same time respect it.” She goes on to write about nature; farm animals; cats and dogs; wild animals; birds; insects and spiders; ocean life; trees; and fruits, vegetables, and nuts. All of these subjects are beautifully illustrated with gorgeous photographs taken by Ray Ruppert. So, just how can we appreciate God’s creation and still show respect for it?
The book discusses how God has provided for us through His creation and how we can learn to respect it by taking good care of what He has provided. For example, it reminds us, “If you are eating while sightseeing, don’t forget to put any trash you may have, like sandwich or candy wrappers, or empty potato chip bags, in trash containers and not on the ground.” Mitchell tells us that we wouldn’t be enjoying nature if it weren’t for our grand Creator’s love for creating, so whether we’re sightseeing, shopping, on vacation, or in school, as we observe all of God’s creation, including other people, and see how wonderfully made everything is, we should take a moment and give thanks to God for everything that He has done. Respect and Enjoy God’s Creation gets a high five from me.
