A native of Avonmore, Pennsylvania, Walter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in world military history and a Master of Arts degree with honors in history. After retiring as the command historian of the U.S. Army’s 28th Infantry Division, he works as a freelance writer and contributing writer for World Book Encyclopedia, World War II History Magazine, World War II Quarterly, and local publications. Walter has written on a variety of subjects and is working on several books.
After visiting and writing about World War I and World War II battlefields in Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, North Africa, and France, he and his wife Bonnie live in Los Barriles, B.C.S., Mexico where he conducts writing workshops for the East Cape Arts Association. Walter is a member of the Capital Area WWII Roundtable, American Historical Association, Army Aviation Association of America, 28th Infantry Division Association, Military Writers Society of America, and the Asociación de Artes del Mar de Cortez.
