Freelance writer residing in California. Worked for the United Nations in Egypt, Congo, Togo and lived in Lebanon temporarily. Naturalized legal immigrant in the United States (wow, I feel like washed jeans).  High interest in  different cultures and travel.

Genetically a bookworm. Will crawl through anything in print. Closet poet as a teen. Highly influenced by Armenian and English literature, a dose of French and translated writings. Vivid imagination. Left and right brain in balance, i.e. loves reconciling checkbooks and creative occupations like designing a dress, writing . . .  Non-fiction oriented, with a sprinkle of humor and a dash of wisdom acquired with age.

"Writing is a compulsive hobby with me, as much as reading has been. Thoughts flash through my mind at the most inopportune times, for example  when I am driving, or praying at church. My writing style is to pour out the muses from my subconscious on the screen, edit them later when my logic takes over. I keep my internal auditor at bay, lest it interfere with my genuine feelings.

My greatest achievement was penning my book, The Immigrants' Daughter, published by Booklocker.com. It is a compendium of memoirs about growing up in Egypt, in a community traumatized by genocide during and after World War I. Sprinkled with humor, it is a story of coming of age, during World War II, trying to find the smothered self underneath layers of cultures,  traditions, fears and realities.  It depicts struggles with imposed behavior versus self-determination, as experienced universally by the progeny of immigrant families, in the process of growing up with old and new values."

The Immigrants' daughter won the Best Books 2006 Award in the Multicultural Non-Fiction category (www.USABookNews.com) and placed finalist in the 2007 National Indie Excellence Book Awards contest (www.pubinsider.com/indieresults.html). My highest satisfaction, however, derives from positive feedback by fans for whom the book has made a difference.

Additional information

I am happy that my first book won two awards, assuring me that it presents reading value. Of course, writing is not the best investment in time, in terms of material returns. It is, however, the best investment for a patch of eternity. Why do I write? I don't know but I can't imagine living without it. Maybe I want to mark my passing in the world with a legacy, maybe it is a panacea for loneliness, an attempt to reach out and touch someone, an outlet for my feelings, a cure to pacify my turbulent soul, a genetic disease, a glimmer of hope for fame, fortune?(ha, ha). It is an occupation that keeps my sanity, a good enough reason to keep at it.
