People come and go
Like the tide’s ebb and flow
Some we choose to forget
Without remorse or regret
Others change our lives
Our souls touched and revived
It’s said we choose our friends
I’m not so sure it’s pretend
Sometimes people find us
Change the minus to a plus
Let’s not be too presumptuous
To assume the conspicuous
For those who desire to isolate
Prefer instead to meditate
I say you’re afraid to connect
Because you’ve lost self-respect
Dare be bold and choose
You really have nothing to lose
When we’re dead and gone
Until the final note of the last song
For most, it’s just another day
Many leave early, but some will stay
Our spirits indelibly linked
Memories forever etched in sync
Very nice. Having a very different attitude toward friendship myself, I enjoy studying how and why others 'choose' friends. One thing I told my children is that every person we meet serves a purpose in our life, even if to teach us what we don't want to be, so they have become a friend to our spirit if nothing else. How much we need to learn and how long we choose to hang around them is another story (smile). So, although I appreciate all of this, I especially like your last two lines.

I like your last paragraph and that is why most of my books center around a song. For every person has a song to be sung.
